Job Title: Legal Technology Applications Manager

Location: Chicago, IL

Work Environment: Hybrid (3 days WFH / 2 days in office)

Salary/Payrate: $175,000 - $200,000 (some flex) annually plus a performance-based bonus and AWESOME benefits!!!

Term: Permanent / Fulltime

Bachelor’s degree required: Preferred

Job Description:

The Legal Technology Applications Manager plays a key role in supporting the Firm’s technology needs across its practice and administrative areas. The role is responsible for the creation, quality, and management of data application coding and principles and works closely with managers, directors, and attorneys on technology solutions, best practices, system integrations, and technology-aided business and process workflow improvements.

Responsibilities:

  • Make recommendations to CIO, directors, managers, and attorneys on the development, purchase and implementation of application systems for the Firm.
  • Maintain knowledge on industry best practice and technologies, and apply and enforce for Firm systems, processes, and workflows as appropriate.
  • Manage the assessment of application requirements in conjunction with current systems to determine feasibility.
  • Management of the Firm’s Web, Intranet, and Application Development.
  • Support all Enterprise Systems.
  • Understand and adjust for the impact that automation and artificial intelligence (Harvey, Co-Pilot, etc.) have on people, processes, and technology and how these change the business of law and ethical obligations.
  • Maintain knowledge of legal technology trends – especially automation and artificial intelligence – industry benchmarks, capabilities, and vendor roadmaps to inform firm direction and platform evolution.
  • Responsible for the planning, implementation and enforcement of consistent coding methods and documentation across all application development processes.
  • Coordinate the research, identification and recommendation of development tools in order to maximize the efficiency of technology development.
  • Planning & Budget with the Firm.
  • Meet with Firm directors and senior management including Chief Administrative Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Business Development Manager, Information Governance Manager, and Director of Knowledge Management and Innovation on a periodic basis to discuss ongoing projects, firm and department initiatives, and software product life cycle (e.g., upgrades, sunset, replacement).
  • Perform periodic license audits and measure usage of software to ensure compliance. with Firm’s licenses and subscription maintenance.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Skills:

  • Five or more years of experience in a law firm or other professional services organization in an application management or lead role.
  • Minimum of five years of experience performing applications management in a professional services setting.
  • PMP certification required; candidates who are not currently certified must obtain certification within 18 months of hire.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite in on-premises, hybrid, and cloud-based environments.
  • Strong business, technical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented self-starter with the ability to manage multiple competing deadlines and prioritize work accordingly.
  • Knowledge of Firm-supported software programs and demonstrated willingness and ability to learn new software applications and equipment.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, communication, time management, customer service, collaboration, flexibility, adaptability, technical, and discretion skills.
  • Ability to work longer hours and weekends as needed for projects and maintenance windows. Travel may be required.

Preferred Skills:

  • College degree with a major in Computer Science or a related field of study.
  • Experience with Elite 3E, SQL, HTML, AWS, Adobe, Java, Agility, System Life Cycle (SLC), UltiPro, OpenText, NetDocuments, Intellistat, WestKM, Record Management Systems, and other legal products from Thomson Reuters, Litera, and IntApp.
  • Litigation support experience with iBlaze, Summation, Concordance, or related software.
  • Web and intranet development expertise.
