Rinker Design Associates, LLC (RDA) is seeking an experienced Senior Roadway Engineer (Team Lead) to lead and develop a team of roadway professionals within our growing Glen Allen, Virginia office.
In this role, you'll provide technical oversight on complex transportation projects while also overseeing staff performance, mentoring engineers, and helping shape the future growth of the team. This position is ideal for a roadway leader who is passionate about both engineering excellence and people development.
$10K Sign-On Bonus

What You'll Do:

  • Lead roadway design efforts: Oversee the development of roadway plans, specifications, estimates, and transportation design deliverables.
  • Manage and develop staff: Provide day-to-day leadership, mentorship, and performance coaching for assigned direct reports while supporting their professional growth.
  • Perform technical oversight: Conduct plan reviews and QA/QC reviews to ensure high-quality project delivery and compliance with VDOT standards.
  • Support resource planning: Assist with workload balancing, task assignments, and team coordination to ensure projects are delivered successfully.
  • Build technical excellence: Mentor engineers across multiple experience levels and promote best practices throughout the team.
  • Collaborate with leadership: Partner with project managers, office leadership, and clients to support business objectives and project success.


What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related field.
  • 6-10 years of roadway engineering and transportation design experience.
  • Virginia PE license required (or ability to obtain Virginia licensure quickly if licensed in another state).
  • Strong knowledge of VDOT standards, project delivery processes, and roadway design best practices.
  • Experience leading technical design efforts, conducting plan reviews, and performing QA/QC.
  • Proficiency with OpenRoads Designer and/or MicroStation required.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor staff and provide technical guidance.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
