Job Summary:
As a Communications Field Technician in telecommunications at DQE, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of complex communication systems and equipment. Your role involves working with a range of technologies, including fiber optics, routers, switches, and wireless systems. You'll conduct system diagnostics, troubleshoot issues, and perform upgrades to ensure reliable and efficient network performance. Collaboration with both clients and internal teams is key, as you will address technical challenges and provide solutions to enhance service quality. This position requires a strong technical background, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work in varied environments, ensuring that telecommunication systems operate seamlessly and meet organizational standards.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Coordinate remote site visits with Customers, vendors, and third parties to ensure timely access to DQE Equipment.
- Implementing and troubleshooting optical transport equipment, provisioning and maintaining electrical transport services, working with Ethernet, and IP Services.
- Perform off site equipment installation, testing, and replacement as needed.
- Track and coordinate maintenance activities such as fiber optic swaps, attenuation, and replacement as needed to keep optical characteristics within the proscribed range.
- Document changes concerning physical access to structures where DQE has a presence.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- In-depth knowledge of telecommunications systems, including fiber optics, coaxial cables, routers, switches, and wireless technologies.
- Proficiency in installing, configuring, and maintaining telecommunications equipment and network infrastructure.
- Strong skills in diagnosing and resolving technical issues with communication systems efficiently and accurately.
- Ability to perform system tests, analyze results, and interpret data to ensure optimal network performance and reliability.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with clients, understand their needs, and provide technical support.
- Competence in documenting installation processes, maintenance activities, and system configurations clearly and accurately.
- Knowledge of safety protocols and industry regulations to ensure safe and compliant work practice
- Strong organizational skills to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Capability to handle physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy equipment and working in various environmental conditions.
Education and Experience:
- 2 - 5 years experience performing related telecommunications duties at the customer premise, co-location facilities, or data center.
- 2-5 years Performing device installation and testing of Ethernet and Optical equipment.
