Job Description
Job DescriptionJob Title: Model Based Systems EngineerJob Description
We are seeking multiple Model Based Systems Engineers to support the development of a specialized next-generation sensor system integrated onto a submarine platform. In this role, you will work as part of a distributed systems engineering team executing within the systems engineering V-model and using a model-based systems engineering (MBSE) approach with Cameo Systems Modeler. You will develop and maintain SysML models that connect operational intent to system and subsystem requirements, interfaces, and integration and test artifacts, all within an agile, incremental development environment that maintains formal architecture and requirements baselines suitable for major design reviews.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain model-based system and subsystem work products using Cameo Systems Modeler.
- Execute requirements development using SysML, including creating use case diagrams, activity diagrams, requirements diagrams, block definition diagrams (BDDs), and internal block diagrams (IBDs).
- Translate system architecture and behavior into clear, concise, and testable requirements.
- Build and maintain mid-level system specifications and detailed subsystem-level specifications.
- Support development across multiple abstraction levels, including system-of-systems, system, and subsystem.
- Work in parallel with software engineering teams to ensure architectural alignment and well-defined, clean interfaces.
- Provide architecture and requirements inputs to integration and test planning, including the development of test procedures.
- Support formal technical milestones, including Preliminary Design Reviews (PDRs), Critical Design Reviews (CDRs), and other design reviews.
- Contribute to configuration-controlled engineering artifacts within a distributed engineering team.
- Decompose high-level requirements into detailed software and hardware specifications as needed.
- Collaborate daily with geographically distributed team members across the U.S. using tools such as Microsoft Teams.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- At least 5 years of experience developing system and subsystem requirements and specifications.
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience with Cameo Systems Modeler.
- Strong ability to connect behavior, structure, interfaces, and requirements within a single SysML model.
- Experience supporting full systems engineering V-model efforts from a systems engineering perspective.
- Prior exposure to formal design reviews such as PDRs, CDRs, and similar technical reviews.
- Eligibility to obtain a U.S. security clearance.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with undersea, naval, or sensor-based systems.
- Familiarity with submarine platforms or underwater vehicles.
- Experience working on programs that execute across the systems engineering V-model with agile elements.
- Prior experience supporting distributed engineering teams.
- Active U.S. security clearance.
- Experience pushing requirements into detailed software and hardware design.
- Interest in creating new software and hardware requirements from the ground up rather than working solely on legacy systems.
Work Environment
This position is primarily tied to a major engineering site with an expectation of regular onsite work. There is flexibility to work from other corporate offices, enabling collaboration with a distributed team across the United States. You will operate in an agile, incremental development environment that maintains formal architecture and requirements baselines for key milestones such as PDRs and CDRs. Daily collaboration typically occurs via Microsoft Teams and other modern collaboration tools. The work focuses on a Phase 2 contract effort to define software and hardware requirements for a brand-new next-generation sensor integrated onto a submarine platform, offering an innovative environment where engineers contribute to cutting-edge systems rather than legacy maintenance.
