SLPT Automotive is seeking a hands-on Test Technician specializing in electrical and electronic systems to support automotive product development, validation, and manufacturing. You will build, wire, commission, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot test stands, test cells, control panels, data-acquisition systems, and production equipment.
This opportunity is well suited for an electrical or electronics technician who enjoys solving equipment problems, working directly with test hardware, and helping bring new products and test systems online.
What You Will Accomplish
- Bring new test stands and electrical systems online safely, accurately, and on schedule.
- Improve test-equipment reliability and reduce downtime through structured troubleshooting and preventive maintenance.
- Generate dependable test data that supports product development, validation, and launch decisions.
- Support prototype electronics and low-volume SMT builds for emerging automotive products.
- Partner across engineering and manufacturing to improve safety, repeatability, quality, and efficiency.
Key ResponsibilitiesTest Equipment and Electrical Systems
- Build, wire, modify, and troubleshoot electrical panels, control cabinets, cable assemblies, and wiring harnesses for test stands and production equipment.
- Install sensors, instrumentation, electrical components, and data-acquisition hardware.
- Support new test-stand commissioning, including wiring verification, functional checks, equipment checkout, and troubleshooting.
- Set up and operate data-acquisition systems, DC power supplies, variable-frequency drives, and electrical instrumentation.
- Use digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, power analyzers, and related diagnostic equipment to identify and resolve electrical issues.
- Perform preventive maintenance, calibration support, and repairs on electrical and electronic test equipment.
- Set up, operate, and maintain noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) test-cell equipment.
- Support root-cause analysis of test failures, equipment downtime, and inconsistent results.
Product Testing and Validation
- Execute established test procedures for electric oil pumps, electric motors, and motor controllers.
- Support functional, performance, endurance, and durability testing.
- Monitor tests, evaluate equipment performance, and escalate abnormal conditions.
- Record test results, equipment conditions, wiring changes, and corrective actions accurately.
- Help maintain reliable operation of existing test stands and production fixtures.
Electronics and Prototype Support
- Assemble, rework, inspect, and bring up printed circuit board assemblies and electronics prototypes.
- Operate a low-volume, in-house surface-mount technology (SMT) production line.
- Support pick-and-place programming, stencil printing, reflow profiling, and first-article inspection.
- Assist engineering teams with prototype builds and new-product development activities.
Technical Documentation and Collaboration
- Read, interpret, draft, and revise electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
- Maintain clear documentation of equipment problems, test configurations, wiring updates, and repairs.
- Partner with test, automation, product, and manufacturing teams to resolve equipment issues.
- Follow established safety procedures when working with high-voltage and high-current automotive power-electronics systems.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree or technical certification in electrical technology, electronics technology, mechatronics, industrial automation, or a related discipline; or equivalent relevant hands-on experience.
- Experience reading electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, or control-panel drawings.
- Hands-on experience wiring, maintaining, or troubleshooting electrical panels, equipment, test systems, or industrial machinery.
- Working knowledge of digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and other common electrical test equipment.
- Foundational understanding of AC and DC power, basic motor controls, and low-voltage electrical systems.
- Demonstrated mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to document work accurately and follow defined test and safety procedures.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced engineering, laboratory, or manufacturing environment.
Equivalent experience matters. Relevant technical training, military experience, apprenticeships, and directly related work experience will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
You do not need to meet every preferred qualification to apply. Experience in one or more of the following areas is valuable:
- LabVIEW, NI-DAQmx, National Instruments hardware, or comparable data-acquisition platforms.
- Variable-frequency drives, brushless DC motors, permanent-magnet synchronous motors, or automotive motor controllers.
- Controller Area Network (CAN) and Local Interconnect Network (LIN) communication and diagnostics.
- Automotive electric oil pumps or other fluid-management components.
- Cognex machine-vision systems, RFID, barcode, or manufacturing traceability equipment.
- SMT equipment, including pick-and-place machines, stencil printers, and reflow ovens.
- Printed circuit board assembly, soldering, component rework, inspection, or prototype bring-up.
- NVH testing or operation of vibration, acoustic, or rotating-equipment test systems.
