Local Requirement: Must be based in the Detroit area
Pay Rate: $75.52/hr
Contract: Long-term contract (extension or direct hire potential)
OverviewOur client is seeking a Senior HVAC / Building Automation Project Engineer to support a large facilities and building systems portfolio.This role focuses on HVAC design, building automation systems (BAS), and capital project execution across commercial and industrial facilities. You will lead engineering efforts from scoping through implementation, working closely with facilities operations and project management teams.
Key Responsibilities

• Lead HVAC system design, upgrades, and implementation across facilities
• Support and troubleshoot Building Automation Systems (BAS), including Niagara Tridium environments
• Develop project scope, preliminary designs, engineering schedules, and cost estimates
• Serve as the technical lead for resolving HVAC and controls-related design challenges
• Conduct risk assessments and ensure engineering quality across projects
• Lead scoping meetings and design reviews with stakeholders and leadership
• Monitor engineering costs and schedules to ensure successful project delivery
• Partner with Project Managers on bid packages and contractor selection
• Support Facilities Operations with system troubleshooting and optimization
• Contribute to HVAC and BAS engineering standards and continuous improvement

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
• 10+ years of experience in:
  • HVAC systems engineering
  • Building systems / facilities engineering
  • OR building automation / controls environments
• Strong experience with HVAC design and building systems projects
• Must be local to the Detroit area and able to work on-site

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license
• Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and controls design
• Hands-on experience with Niagara Tridium
• Experience with BIM tools (Revit, Autodesk Construction Cloud)
• PMP certification or project leadership experience
