Design Engineer
Position Overview
We are seeking a hands on Design Engineer to develop, model, and refine mechanical components and assemblies from concept through production. The role focuses on creating robust, manufacturable designs using SolidWorks, collaborating with cross-functional teams (R&D, manufacturing, and suppliers), and supporting prototyping, testing, and product release activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed 3D models and assemblies in SolidWorks and produce accurate 2D production drawings and BOMs.
- Translate product requirements into manufacturable designs that meet cost, performance, and reliability targets.
- Perform tolerance analysis, design for manufacturability (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), and incorporate feedback from testing and production.
- Support prototyping and testing activities, troubleshoot issues, and iterate designs based on test results and stakeholder feedback.
- Participate in design reviews, maintain technical documentation, and ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards and specifications.
- Collaborate with purchasing and suppliers to select components and materials, provide fabrication instructions, and resolve manufacturing issues.
- Identify opportunities to optimize designs for cost, weight, durability, and ease of manufacture.
- Mentor junior designers and share best practices for modeling, documentation, and version control.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3+ years of experience in a design engineering role, demonstrating ownership of product design from concept to production.
- Proven proficiency with SolidWorks for 3D modeling, assembly design, and 2D drawing creation (required).
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes (sheet metal, injection molding, machining, fastening) and design for manufacturability principles.
- Familiarity with CAD workflows and other CAD tools is a plus (nice-to-have).
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills; experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and suppliers.
