Job Description

Technical Services Specialist

Grand Rapids, MI | Direct Hire

Company: Fast-growing ingredient distributor supplying the supplement, nutraceutical, and functional food industries. Core categories include collagen, gelatin, polyol sweeteners, fiber, plant proteins, and PHGG.

Summary: The Technical Services Specialist will build accurate product documentation from scratch and serve as a clear, reliable technical point of contact for customers. Hands-on depth in spec and fact-panel creation will be required.

Key Responsibilities:

• Create product specifications from scratch across the ingredient portfolio (collagen, gelatin, polyol sweeteners, fiber, plant proteins, PHGG), building new documents, not just updating existing ones

• Build and review Nutrition Facts Panels and Supplement Facts Panels; catch mathematical or scientific inconsistencies (e.g., values that don't sum correctly, water activity that contradicts dry matter)

• Translate supplier specifications into internal spec format

• Serve as technical point of contact for customers on ingredient and spec questions, including explaining discrepancies in writing

• Partner with the local technical services team on FSQA-adjacent tasks

• Maintain accurate, audit-ready documentation across ingredient categories

• Flag regulatory or compliance considerations for review

Required Experience:

• 2 to 4 years creating product specifications and/or Nutrition/Supplement Facts Panels from scratch

• Background in supplement, nutraceutical, vitamin, or functional food industry; protein beverage or plant-based/alternative protein experience also fits

• Familiarity with collagen, gelatin, polyol sweeteners, fiber, plant proteins, or PHGG, with direct hands-on experience preferred, especially with collagen or gelatin

• Ability to convert supplier specifications into an internal spec format

• Clear written technical communication for direct customer correspondence

Nice to Have:

• Direct experience with collagen or gelatin

• Familiarity with lab methodology or standards (e.g., USP)

• Regulatory awareness or exposure

• Background in finished product labeling

• FSQA or lab experience

Work Environment:

• On-site role at Grand Rapids, MI facility

• Joins a full local technical services team with in-house support

• Fast-paced, lean, and flat organization; problem-solving and a roll-up-your-sleeves mindset matter more than formal hierarchy
