Network Engineer Contractor
Location: Jersey City, NJ
Pay Rate: $59–$70/hour
Duration: Contract through the end of the year
Position Overview
The Network Engineer Contractor will design, implement, and manage secure and scalable network solutions to ensure reliable connectivity and optimal network performance. This role will focus heavily on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) networking, cloud connectivity, security, automation, and enterprise infrastructure design.
Key Responsibilities
Network Infrastructure & Operations
- Design and implement LAN, WAN, and wireless network infrastructure
- Configure and maintain network hardware including routers, switches, firewalls, and access points
- Monitor network performance and troubleshoot connectivity and infrastructure issues
- Implement network security measures to protect systems from unauthorized access and vulnerabilities
- Collaborate with internal IT teams to integrate network solutions with existing systems and applications
- Maintain documentation for network configurations, procedures, and compliance purposes
GCP Cloud Networking
- Architect and manage GCP Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) environments, including:

- Shared VPC topologies
- VPC peering
- Subnet design
- IP Address Management (IPAM)
- Deploy and manage:
-
- Dedicated Interconnect
- Partner Interconnect
- HA VPN tunnels
- BGP routing configurations
- Establish secure, high-bandwidth, low-latency connectivity between on-premises data centers and GCP regions
Load Balancing & Traffic Management
- Design and manage GCP load balancing solutions including:

- External and Internal HTTP(S)
- TCP/SSL Proxy
- Network Load Balancers
- Configure backend services, health checks, URL maps, and SSL policies
- Ensure application availability and optimized traffic distribution
Security & Compliance
- Configure and manage Cloud NAT gateways for secure outbound internet access
- Design and enforce:

- Hierarchical firewall policies
- VPC firewall rules
- Tag-based and service-account-based access controls
- Implement:

- VPC Service Controls
- Cloud Armor WAF policies
- Private Google Access
- SSL certificate management
- Conduct regular firewall and security audits to eliminate overly permissive configurations
Automation & Infrastructure as Code
- Develop and maintain Terraform modules for:

- VPCs
- Subnets
- Firewall rules
- Load balancers
- NAT gateways
- Interconnects
- Create Python scripts and Cloud Functions to automate:

- Network provisioning
- Firewall rule lifecycle management
- IP allocation
- Compliance checks
- Integrate automation workflows into CI/CD pipelines
DNS & Hybrid Networking
- Configure and manage Cloud DNS (public and private zones)
- Implement DNS peering for hybrid cloud environments
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong experience with enterprise network engineering and cloud networking
- Hands-on experience with GCP networking services and architecture
- Experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
- Python scripting and automation experience
- Strong understanding of routing, VPNs, firewalls, DNS, and load balancing
- Experience with hybrid cloud and on-premises connectivity solutions
- Strong troubleshooting and network security expertise
