- Assess the architecture, health, configuration, and operational readiness of the existing SQL Server environment.
- Troubleshoot and stabilize SQL Server 2014 and 2017 clustered environments.
- Identify storage, configuration, failover, availability, performance, and supportability risks.
- Assess the SQL Server 2016 reporting server and recommend a migration approach.
- Support the relocation of SQL Server infrastructure from the current data center to a nearby colocation facility.
- Design and size a new production SQL Server 2022 clustered environment.
- Build and configure the SQL Server 2022 cluster according to current best practices.
- Develop a phased plan for migrating databases from SQL Server 2014 and 2017 to SQL Server 2022.
- Identify and address SQL Server 2022 compatibility, application, integration, and performance considerations.
- Determine whether reporting should run on the new SQL Server 2022 cluster or on a separate reporting server.
- Plan and execute production database migrations.
- Develop cutover, validation, and rollback procedures.
- Coordinate application testing with infrastructure, application, and development teams.
- Review and improve SQL Server access management, database security, and configuration.
- Assess and strengthen backup, restore, high availability, and disaster recovery processes.
- Validate disaster recovery replication and recoverability.
- Review the Commvault SQL Server backup configuration.
- Confirm that backups complete successfully and can be restored.
- Assist with ongoing SQL Server requests throughout the engagement.
- Build automation for recurring administrative tasks where appropriate.
- Create operational procedures, runbooks, environment documentation, and administrative guides.
- Conduct knowledge-transfer sessions with internal staff.
- Evaluate whether the overall work can be completed within the desired six-month timeframe.

Required Qualifications
\n

- Recent production experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2022.
- Direct experience designing, building, configuring, or administering a SQL Server 2022 clustered environment.
- Experience migrating databases from SQL Server 2014 or 2017 to SQL Server 2022.
- Senior-level experience administering Microsoft SQL Server infrastructure.
- Experience with SQL Server 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2022.
- Strong knowledge of SQL Server clustering, high availability, and failover.
- Demonstrated experience troubleshooting SQL Server cluster and failover issues.
- Experience planning and executing production database migrations and version upgrades.
- Experience evaluating compatibility risks when migrating legacy databases to SQL Server 2022.
- Experience supporting SQL Server in VMware environments.
- Experience with shared storage and iSCSI configurations.
- Experience supporting a data center migration or infrastructure relocation.
- Strong knowledge of SQL Server backup, restore, high availability, and disaster recovery.
- Experience developing migration, testing, cutover, validation, and rollback plans.
- Experience coordinating database migrations with infrastructure, development, and application teams.
- Ability to independently evaluate an unfamiliar environment and develop an actionable plan.
- Experience creating technical documentation and operational runbooks.
- Experience conducting knowledge-transfer sessions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

- Experience supporting integrations between Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server.

Work Environment
\n

- Hybrid position based in Carmel, Indiana.
- Onsite Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
- Standard hours are approximately Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Evening and weekend work will be required for some migrations and production cutovers.
- Regular schedules may be adjusted to minimize unnecessary overtime.
- Local Carmel or Indianapolis candidates are strongly preferred.
- Exceptionally qualified nonlocal candidates may be considered but should be prepared to travel to Carmel during critical project phases.

Contract Details
