• Assess the architecture, health, configuration, and operational readiness of the existing SQL Server environment.

\n

• Troubleshoot and stabilize SQL Server 2014 and 2017 clustered environments.

\n

• Identify storage, configuration, failover, availability, performance, and supportability risks.

\n

• Assess the SQL Server 2016 reporting server and recommend a migration approach.

\n

• Support the relocation of SQL Server infrastructure from the current data center to a nearby colocation facility.

\n

• Design and size a new production SQL Server 2022 clustered environment.

\n

• Build and configure the SQL Server 2022 cluster according to current best practices.

\n

• Develop a phased plan for migrating databases from SQL Server 2014 and 2017 to SQL Server 2022.

\n

• Identify and address SQL Server 2022 compatibility, application, integration, and performance considerations.

\n

• Determine whether reporting should run on the new SQL Server 2022 cluster or on a separate reporting server.

\n

• Plan and execute production database migrations.

\n

• Develop cutover, validation, and rollback procedures.

\n

• Coordinate application testing with infrastructure, application, and development teams.

\n

• Review and improve SQL Server access management, database security, and configuration.

\n

• Assess and strengthen backup, restore, high availability, and disaster recovery processes.

\n

• Validate disaster recovery replication and recoverability.

\n

• Review the Commvault SQL Server backup configuration.

\n

• Confirm that backups complete successfully and can be restored.

\n

• Assist with ongoing SQL Server requests throughout the engagement.

\n

• Build automation for recurring administrative tasks where appropriate.

\n

• Create operational procedures, runbooks, environment documentation, and administrative guides.

\n

• Conduct knowledge-transfer sessions with internal staff.

\n

• Evaluate whether the overall work can be completed within the desired six-month timeframe.

\n

Required Qualifications

\n

\n
• Recent production experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2022.

\n

• Direct experience designing, building, configuring, or administering a SQL Server 2022 clustered environment.

\n

• Experience migrating databases from SQL Server 2014 or 2017 to SQL Server 2022.

\n

• Senior-level experience administering Microsoft SQL Server infrastructure.

\n

• Experience with SQL Server 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2022.

\n

• Strong knowledge of SQL Server clustering, high availability, and failover.

\n

• Demonstrated experience troubleshooting SQL Server cluster and failover issues.

\n

• Experience planning and executing production database migrations and version upgrades.

\n

• Experience evaluating compatibility risks when migrating legacy databases to SQL Server 2022.

\n

• Experience supporting SQL Server in VMware environments.

\n

• Experience with shared storage and iSCSI configurations.

\n

• Experience supporting a data center migration or infrastructure relocation.

\n

• Strong knowledge of SQL Server backup, restore, high availability, and disaster recovery.

\n

• Experience developing migration, testing, cutover, validation, and rollback plans.

\n

• Experience coordinating database migrations with infrastructure, development, and application teams.

\n

• Ability to independently evaluate an unfamiliar environment and develop an actionable plan.

\n

• Experience creating technical documentation and operational runbooks.

\n

• Experience conducting knowledge-transfer sessions.

\n

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

\n

\n

Preferred Qualifications

• HPE shared storage experience.

\n

• Commvault backup and recovery experience.

\n

• PowerShell or comparable SQL Server automation experience.

\n

• Experience supporting homegrown .NET applications.

\n

• Oracle DBA experience.

\n

• Oracle ERP support experience.

\n

• Experience supporting integrations between Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server.

\n

Work Environment

\n

\n
• Hybrid position based in Carmel, Indiana.

\n

• Onsite Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

\n

• Standard hours are approximately Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

\n

• Evening and weekend work will be required for some migrations and production cutovers.

\n

• Regular schedules may be adjusted to minimize unnecessary overtime.

\n

• Local Carmel or Indianapolis candidates are strongly preferred.

\n

• Exceptionally qualified nonlocal candidates may be considered but should be prepared to travel to Carmel during critical project phases.

Contract Details

\n

\n
• Contract duration: Approximately six months.

\n

• Hybrid work arrangement.

\n

• Periodic evening and weekend availability required for production migrations and cutovers.

\n

\n
