Job Description

Job Description

Asteroid IT is a compliance-focused managed service provider based in Arizona. We

support DoD contractors and CPA firms that have to meet CMMC and FTC Safeguards

requirements.

As our Level 2 Engineer, you will be our clients' first line of support. You'll be the primary

point of contact for incoming tickets and resolve them start to finish with minimal

escalation. When the queue is quiet, you'll work alongside our project engineer on client

projects. This role is built for someone who wants real ownership today and a path into

project and compliance engineering.

What you'll do:

Helpdesk (primary focus)

  • Work the ticket queue: triage, prioritize, and resolve incoming requests by phone and email
  • Resolve most issues directly, with a clear escalation path for complex or project-level problems
  • Support Windows 10/11 endpoints, Windows Server 2019 and newer, Active Directory, and Group Policy
  • Administer Microsoft 365 and Entra ID: users, licensing, mailboxes, MFA, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive
  • Work ThreatLocker application approval requests and policy adjustments
  • Handle Duo MFA enrollments, resets, and lockouts
  • Investigate and remediate Huntress alerts and phishing reports
  • Use NinjaOne for remote support, patching, and endpoint monitoring
  • Support line-of-business apps, including tax and accounting software
  • Troubleshoot printers, scanners, network connectivity, Wi-Fi, and VPN access
  • Write clear, complete ticket notes. For our CMMC clients, your documentation is audit evidence
  • Build and update knowledge base articles and runbooks as you solve recurring issues

Project support (when the queue allows)

  • Help the project engineer with onboarding new clients, migrations, and hardware rollouts
  • Assist with email migrations, including SPF, DKIM, and DMARC setup
  • Support CMMC Level 1 and Level 2 implementation work: control configuration, evidence collection, and documentation
  • Help with backup and virtualization work on Proxmox and Proxmox Backup Server

Perform occasional on-site work and scheduled after-hours maintenance windows

Our stack includes:

  • NinjaOne for RMM and remote support
  • ThreatLocker and all associated modules
  • Huntress for MDR, SIEM and security awareness training
  • Duo for MFA
  • Sophos firewalls
  • Clients run on Microsoft 365 and Entra ID, with Windows Server 2019 and newer, Proxmox, and Proxmox Backup Server on the back end, plus AWS for cloud workloads.
  • We manage tickets in ConnectWise and documentation in IT Glue.

You don't need experience with every tool on day one. We will train you on the ones you

haven't used.

What we're looking for

Required:

  • 3+ years in IT support, with at least 2 years at an MSP or supporting multiple client environments
  • Confidence working through tickets independently, and good judgment about when to escalate
  • Strong Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Active Directory, and Windows troubleshooting skills
  • Hands-on Windows Server troubleshooting experience
  • At least 1 year of experience using AI tools (such as Claude, ChatGPT, or Copilot) in your day-to-day work, and the ability to use them effectively to troubleshoot, document, and work faster
  • Working knowledge of networking: DNS, DHCP, VLANs, VPNs, and firewalls
  • Experience with an RMM and a PSA or ticketing system
  • Clear, professional communication with non-technical users, including firm owners and office managers
  • Disciplined documentation habits and comfort following change control
  • Reliable transportation for client site visits in the Phoenix and East Valley area
  • U.S. work authorization and the ability to pass a background check. U.S. citizenship is required for DoD client environments

Nice to have:

  • Experience in a regulated environment: CMMC, NIST 800-171, or FTC Safeguards
  • Hands-on time with ThreatLocker, Huntress, Duo, or NinjaOne
  • Support experience with tax and accounting software
  • PowerShell scripting
  • Certifications such as CompTIA Security+ or Network+, or Microsoft MD-102 or MS-102
  • Experience deploying a Windows Server from the ground up
  • Experience with Proxmox, virtualization, or backup platforms

Compensation and schedule:

Pay: $60,000 to $75,000 per year, depending on experience

Type: Full-time

Location: Remote, with regular client site visits in the Phoenix and East Valley area

Hours: Business hours, plus occasional scheduled after-hours maintenance windows

Growth: A clear path into project engineering and CMMC compliance work
