Salary Range: $75,000–$200,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.

Role Description The Design Engineer is responsible for performing a variety of engineering duties that support all departments, with a primary focus on tooling and fixture design for deep draw transfer presses with progressive die design a plus. This role ensures manufacturability, quality, and efficiency across production while driving process improvements and innovation.

The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical aptitude, hands-on experience with US Baird, Waterbury Farrel, and Bruderer presses, and proficiency in SolidWorks and Inventor.

Responsibilities

\n

    \n
  • Analyze and interpret customer drawings; apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) and blueprint reading skills.
  • \n

  • Determine the feasibility of parts for production on transfer presses, including operation sequence, material requirements, and press selection.
  • \n

  • Estimate time and cost to engineer, build, and develop tooling.
  • \n

  • Design tooling sets, fixtures, gauges, and other devices to ensure manufacturability, quality, and efficiency.
  • \n

  • Support toolmakers with troubleshooting and problem-solving during forming and tooling issues.
  • \n

  • Lead process optimization initiatives to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance product quality.
  • \n

  • Integrate advanced manufacturing technologies and lead new product introductions and process improvement projects.
  • \n

  • Create and maintain technical drawings in SolidWorks, adhering to company standards.
  • \n

  • Maintain and organize drawings and documentation using company software systems.
  • \n

  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
  • \n

Qualifications

\n

    \n
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of deep drawn transfer press operations.
  • \n

  • Experience with US Baird, Waterbury Farrel, presses required.
  • \n

  • Proficiency in SolidWorks preferred.
  • \n

  • Familiarity with geometric tolerancing (GD&T) and blueprint interpretation.
  • \n

  • Knowledge of basic quality control equipment (comparator, micrometer, caliper, gauge blocks).
  • \n

  • Excellent communication, organization, and prioritization skills.
  • \n

  • Ability to forecast time and cost for new tooling projects.
  • \n

  • Tool and die maker background desirable.
  • \n

  • Automotive or similar industry experience is a plus.
