Job Title: Embedded Software Engineer

Job Description

This role focuses on developing and maintaining software solutions for medical training simulators, including a cross-platform mobile application for iOS and Android using .NET MAUI, XAML, and C#, as well as embedded firmware for ESP32-based devices in C. The engineer collaborates closely with electrical, mechanical, and software teams to deliver integrated medical training products, contributing throughout the software development lifecycle from design and implementation to testing, validation, and ongoing support.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance a cross-platform iOS and Android application using .NET MAUI, XAML, and C#
  • Design and implement user interface features that provide intuitive, responsive, and user-friendly experiences.
  • Develop and maintain embedded firmware in C for ESP32-based medical simulation devices.
  • Implement and manage communication between application software and embedded devices using Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, USB, or serial communication protocols.
  • Debug and troubleshoot issues across application software, embedded firmware, and system integration layers.
  • Apply object-oriented programming principles and software design best practices to ensure maintainable, readable, and scalable code.
  • Participate in software architecture discussions, design reviews, and code reviews to improve quality and consistency.
  • Develop unit tests and support system testing, validation, and verification activities for both applications and embedded systems.
  • Assist with deployment, maintenance, and continuous improvement of simulation software and embedded devices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to integrate hardware and software into complete medical simulation systems.
  • Maintain technical requirements documentation and testing/validation records in a clear and organized manner.
  • Utilize and maintain version control systems, including GitHub, to manage source code and support collaborative development.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficient knowledge of C and C# programming languages.
  • Familiarity with object-oriented programming principles and practices.
  • Experience using Microsoft Visual Studio and .NET MAUI for application development.
  • Basic understanding of embedded systems programming concepts.
  • Familiarity with Git or other version control systems.
  • Ability to debug software across both application and embedded environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Interest in application development, embedded systems, and medical simulation technology.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional engineering teams.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Familiarity with ESP32 microcontrollers.
  • Understanding of Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, USB, or serial communication concepts.
  • Experience developing Windows, Android, or iOS applications.
  • Experience with mobile application development for iOS and Android platforms.
  • Exposure to embedded software development and embedded systems.
  • Background or interest in electrical engineering or embedded systems integration.
  • Experience working with medical devices or simulation technology is beneficial.

Work Environment

The role is based in a medical device manufacturing environment near Saugerties, NY, within an engineering team of approximately 15 to 20 employees. The position offers structured daytime schedules with typical start times around 7:00 a.m., 7:30 a.m., or 8:00 a.m., supporting a collaborative and hands-on engineering culture. The environment emphasizes cross-functional collaboration between electrical, mechanical, and software engineers to develop integrated medical training simulators. The position is offered as a long-term, open-ended contract with the intention to convert to a permanent role upon future headcount approval, and includes accrued time off and six paid holidays.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saugerties, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.45 - $31.25/hr.
