As the Manager of Data Operations, you will be responsible for the administration, performance, and architecture of Blitt and Gaines, P.C.’s Microsoft SQL Server environment. This role combines hands-on database administration with team leadership, overseeing the firm’s data infrastructure while guiding a team responsible for SQL-based reporting and Power BI development.
You will ensure the reliability, performance, and scalability of our transactional database systems, including environments utilizing SQL Server replication. In addition to database administration responsibilities, you will lead and mentor a small team of report developers, provide architectural guidance for SQL-related development, and participate in the firm’s pull request and code review process when database changes are involved.
This is an experienced leadership role with opportunity to influence long-term data architecture and strategy within the firm. You will report to the Director of Development and work closely with development, operations, and business stakeholders to ensure the integrity, performance, and accessibility of organizational data.
Key Responsibilities:
• Administer, monitor, and maintain the firm’s Microsoft SQL Server environment to ensure reliability, performance, and data integrity.
• Manage and optimize transactional replication and other data distribution mechanisms across database environments.
• Lead performance tuning efforts including query optimization, indexing strategies, and database configuration improvements.
• Provide architectural guidance and decision-making related to database design, schema structure, and data storage strategies.
• Oversee and mentor a team of report developers responsible for SQL-based reporting and Power BI solutions.
• Review and approve SQL-related code changes as part of the organization’s pull request and source control workflow.
• Collaborate with software developers to ensure efficient database interaction within applications and services.
• Assist in designing and maintaining data models that support reporting, analytics, and operational systems.
• Monitor database performance and proactively identify opportunities for optimization or infrastructure improvement.
• Support troubleshooting and resolution of production issues related to data systems, reporting, or performance.
• Establish and enforce best practices for database development, change management, and deployment processes.
• Work with stakeholders to ensure data accuracy, availability, and proper governance across reporting systems.
Requirements:
Minimum Requirements:
• 5+ years of professional experience administering Microsoft SQL Server environments as a database administrator.
• Strong experience with SQL performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, and execution plan analysis.
• Experience managing transactional replication or other SQL Server data replication technologies.
• Advanced proficiency writing complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and database scripts.
• Experience leading or mentoring technical team members.
• Familiarity with source control and code review workflows involving database changes.
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills related to database performance and reliability.
• Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across development and business teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience supporting or managing Power BI reporting environments.
• Experience with Azure DevOps, Git, and pull request workflows.
• Experience designing scalable database architectures for enterprise applications.
• Familiarity with database monitoring, alerting, and performance management tools.
• Experience implementing data governance or data quality practices.
