The Design Release Engineer (DRE) – BIW Underbody will support the design, development, validation, and release of Body-in-White (BIW) underbody components and assemblies. The role will work closely with design, manufacturing, simulation, quality, and supplier teams to ensure components meet design, dimensional, performance, quality, and manufacturing requirements.

The ideal candidate will have 2–5 years of automotive engineering experience, a good understanding of BIW underbody structures and sheet metal components, and strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Key Responsibilities
\n

- Support the development and engineering release of BIW underbody stampings, brackets, reinforcements, and assemblies from concept through production.
- Coordinate with design, manufacturing, simulation, quality, and supplier teams to ensure product requirements are met.
- Review engineering designs and provide feedback related to manufacturability, dimensional requirements, GD&T, and assembly.
- Review and interpret sheet metal forming simulation reports to identify potential manufacturing concerns and support design decisions.
- Use basic CAD skills to review 3D models, layouts, and engineering designs and effectively communicate design-related issues.
- Apply GD&T and dimensional requirements to support product design, manufacturing, and assembly objectives.
- Participate in design reviews, prototype builds, vehicle builds, and product development milestones.
- Support investigation and resolution of engineering, manufacturing, dimensional, and quality issues.
- Coordinate with suppliers to address technical concerns, track corrective actions, and support timely resolution.
- Support engineering change activities, including design updates, drawing revisions, and release documentation.
- Communicate technical issues clearly to cross-functional teams and help drive issues to closure.
- Review and provide input on engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Support product validation and manufacturing readiness activities throughout the development and launch process.
- Maintain effective communication with stakeholders and provide regular updates on project status, open issues, and required actions.

Required Qualifications
\n

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- 2–5 years of automotive engineering experience, preferably in BIW, body structures, sheet metal, design release, manufacturing, or product development.
- Working knowledge of BIW underbody components, stampings, reinforcements, and assemblies.
- Understanding of sheet metal design, stamping processes, and forming simulation.
- Working knowledge of GD&T and dimensional requirements.
- Basic to intermediate proficiency with Siemens NX for reviewing and working with 3D models and engineering designs.
- Experience with Teamcenter or another PLM system.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supplier teams.
- Ability to identify technical concerns, communicate them clearly, and work collaboratively toward resolution.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced automotive development and manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications
\n

- Experience with BIW underbody design and development at an automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier.
- Experience supporting design release engineering activities.
- Familiarity with AutoForm or other sheet metal forming simulation tools.
- Experience with dimensional analysis, tolerance stack-up, and manufacturing feasibility reviews.
- Experience supporting prototype builds, vehicle builds, launch, or production activities.
- Familiarity with automotive stamping, welding, joining, and assembly processes.
- Experience working directly with automotive suppliers on technical issues and corrective actions.
