EDM Specialist
About the Role
We are seeking a skilled EDM Specialist to support the manufacture of precision tooling, molds, and components used in high-tolerance manufacturing applications. This role is responsible for programming, setup, operation, and maintenance of EDM equipment while working closely with Toolmakers, CNC Machinists, Engineering, and Quality teams to ensure exceptional precision and quality.
The ideal candidate will have experience operating Wire EDM and/or Sinker EDM equipment in a tool and die, mold-making, or precision manufacturing environment and will have strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
Key Responsibilities
EDM Programming & Operation
● Set up and operate Wire EDM and/or Sinker EDM equipment
● Program EDM machines using customer drawings, CAD models, and engineering specifications
● Select appropriate tooling, electrodes, fixtures, and machine parameters
● Monitor machine performance and make adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy
● Verify completed work against specifications and tolerance requirements
Tool & Mold Manufacturing Support
● Manufacture precision tooling, mold components, inserts, electrodes, and production parts
● Work closely with Mold Makers, CNC Machinists, and Engineers to support tool builds and repairs
● Assist with prototype, development, and production tooling projects
● Support tool modifications and engineering change implementation
Quality & Inspection
● Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications
● Perform in-process inspections using precision measuring equipment
● Maintain required documentation and production records
● Ensure completed components meet quality and dimensional requirements
Equipment Maintenance & Continuous Improvement
● Perform routine machine maintenance and preventive maintenance activities
● Troubleshoot machining and process issues
● Recommend process improvements to increase efficiency, quality, and throughput
● Support Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives
Required Qualifications
● High school diploma or equivalent
● 3+ years of EDM machining experience
● Experience operating Wire EDM and/or Sinker EDM equipment
● Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T
● Experience working with precision measuring instruments
● Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
Preferred Qualifications
● Tool & Die, Mold Making, or Precision Manufacturing experience
● EDM programming experience
● CNC machining experience
● CAD/CAM software exposure
● Experience working in ISO-certified manufacturing environments
● Apprenticeship, technical certification, or journeyman-level training
Compensation
Hourly Rate: $28.00 – $40.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications
