Senior Systems Engineer – MSP Experience Required
O-Lux Technologies is seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer with prior Managed Service Provider (MSP) experience to join our growing team.
This is a hands-on senior-level technical position for an engineer who can independently manage complex client environments, troubleshoot escalated technical issues, lead infrastructure projects, and communicate directly with clients.
Previous MSP experience is required for this position.
The ideal candidate understands the fast-paced nature of an MSP environment and is comfortable supporting multiple clients, technologies, networks, and infrastructure configurations simultaneously.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a senior escalation point for complex technical issues.
- Troubleshoot and resolve advanced server, network, cloud, Microsoft 365, and endpoint issues.
- Manage Windows Server environments including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, file services, and permissions.
- Administer Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, Entra ID, and related Microsoft cloud services.
- Support and manage Microsoft Azure environments.
- Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Hyper-V and VMware virtualization environments.
- Configure and troubleshoot firewalls, switches, wireless networks, VLANs, VPNs, routing, and other network infrastructure.
- Lead server migrations, infrastructure upgrades, Microsoft 365 migrations, network upgrades, and other client projects.
- Diagnose performance, connectivity, authentication, security, and infrastructure issues.
- Support backup and disaster recovery solutions.
- Assist with cybersecurity technologies including EDR, identity protection, MFA, email security, SIEM, vulnerability remediation, and endpoint security.
- Perform technical assessments of client environments and recommend improvements.
- Work directly with clients to explain technical issues, recommendations, project requirements, and solutions.
- Create and maintain accurate client documentation.
- Coordinate with vendors, internet service providers, software vendors, and other third parties.
- Mentor and assist junior and mid-level technicians.
- Participate in occasional after-hours projects, maintenance, and critical support situations.
- Travel to client locations when onsite support or project work is required.
Required Qualifications
- Previous experience working for a Managed Service Provider (MSP) is required.
- 7+ years of professional IT experience.
- Strong Windows Server administration experience.
- Advanced Active Directory and Group Policy troubleshooting experience.
- Strong Microsoft 365 administration experience.
- Experience with Microsoft Entra ID and Azure.
- Strong understanding of DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, VPNs, and firewalls.
- Experience with Hyper-V and/or VMware.
- Experience troubleshooting complex Windows workstation and server environments.
- Experience managing backup and disaster recovery solutions.
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity best practices.
- Ability to independently diagnose and resolve complex technical problems.
- Ability to manage multiple clients, projects, tickets, and priorities.
- Strong documentation skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Professional client-facing communication skills.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

MSP Experience
Because this position supports multiple client environments, candidates without prior MSP experience will not be considered for this role.
Candidates should already be comfortable with:
- Supporting multiple client organizations simultaneously.

What We Are Looking For
We are looking for a true senior engineer who can take ownership of an issue without requiring step-by-step direction.
You should be able to walk into an unfamiliar client environment, understand how the infrastructure is configured, identify the root cause of a problem, develop a solution, and execute that solution professionally.
This position requires someone who is comfortable making technical decisions, researching unfamiliar issues, communicating with clients, and assisting other engineers when they encounter difficult technical problems.

Position Details
Position: Senior Systems Engineer
Job Type: Full-Time
Location: Chicagoland, Illinois
Schedule: Monday through Friday during normal business hours, with occasional after-hours work for scheduled projects, maintenance, or critical issues.
This is a hands-on engineering position and may require travel to client locations throughout the Chicagoland area.
