Next Chapter Job Placement is recruiting for a Senior Data Platform Engineer opportunity with a fast-growing defense technology company developing advanced maritime systems and AI-powered perception technology.
This is a highly technical, hands-on role for an experienced engineer who can architect and build a high-throughput data platform from the ground up. You'll have significant ownership over the infrastructure used to process, organize, validate and deliver large-scale multi-sensor datasets used by machine learning and perception teams.
What You'll Do
• Architect and build high-throughput data pipelines for large-scale sensor datasets
• Develop post-processing pipelines that align, resample and calibrate multi-sensor data
• Build backfill and reprocessing frameworks for filters, synchronization changes, label corrections and metadata enrichment
• Develop data lineage and versioning systems that ensure experiment reproducibility
• Build APIs and SDKs for dataset discovery and access
• Develop data-quality metrics, dashboards, alerts and automated validation processes
• Optimize data storage using columnar formats, compression, chunking, sharding and prefetching strategies
• Develop tooling and pre-labeling workflows supporting machine-learning and perception teams
• Deploy and operate production data pipelines in cloud environments
• Take significant ownership of architecture and technical decisions in a fast-moving startup environment
What We're Looking For
• Approximately 5–8+ years of relevant software/data engineering experience
• Strong experience architecting high-throughput data pipelines and data platforms
• Demonstrated ability to design and build data infrastructure from the ground up
• Strong Python development skills
• Experience with PyArrow, Polars, Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, or similar data-processing technologies
• Strong cloud-platform experience, preferably AWS
• Proven experience deploying production data pipelines to the cloud
• Experience with at least one additional language such as Go, Rust or TypeScript
• Experience with data lineage, versioning and reproducibility
• Experience designing backfill/reprocessing systems and data-quality instrumentation
• Ability to work independently with minimal direction in an early-stage environment
• Strong ownership mentality and ability to take projects from architecture through production
Highly Desirable Experience
• Previous startup or greenfield engineering experience
• Dataset-as-a-product ownership
• Full-stack or generalist engineering capabilities
• Experience supporting machine-learning or perception teams
• Experience with sensor, telemetry, audio/sonar, video or geospatial datasets
• Experience with time synchronization across multiple data sources
Additional Requirement
• U.S. citizenship is required for this position
Compensation & Benefits
• $200,000–$240,000 annual base salary
• Long-term equity incentive program
• 401(k)
