Job DescriptionPosition Purpose/Summary
The Central Office Network Technician is committed to providing the highest quality of service to the communities, customers, and employees we serve by installing, programming, testing, maintaining, and repairing central office equipment, transmission systems, and special circuits.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Use company equipment, computer programs, and applications as required.

Perform central office administrative duties including maintaining records, preparing logs, completing specialized reports, and processing complex orders and trouble reports.

Demonstrate technical skills to install, operate, maintain, test, and provision central office switching and transmission equipment.

Install, test, maintain, and repair advanced telecommunication services such as FTTP/FTTH, DOCSIS, VDSL, T1/PRI, and VOIP.

Install, maintain, and troubleshoot Wide Area Network (WAN) equipment and services; assist with Cable Television headend equipment such as receivers, modulators, and scramblers.

Troubleshoot telecommunication issues using applications, meters, and analyzers; perform diagnostic testing on digital switching equipment.

Provide technical support for complex internal issues; read and interpret technical documentation including Telcordia, IETF, NECA, ITU, and manufacturers’ schematics.

Qualifications
At a minimum, the Central Office Network Technician must have an associate degree in a related field of study along with 4+ years, 6+ years without a degree, of related work experience in maintaining switches, routers, fiber optic cables, and other equipment at switching hubs or central offices, and a valid driver’s license.
A bachelor’s degree in a related field of study along with 2+ years of related work experience in the same areas is preferred.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in hosted PBX and SIP networking. Knowledge of Meta Switch, Calix, Adtran, BTI, and Infinera is preferred but not required.
