Job Description

About Us

Clayco is a full-service, turnkey real estate development, master planning, architecture, engineering, and construction firm that safely delivers clients across North America the highest quality solutions on time, on budget, and above and beyond expectations. With $8.1 billion in revenue for 2025, Clayco specializes in the "art and science of building," providing fast track, efficient solutions for mission critical, industrial, life sciences, power & energy, aviation, commercial, institutional, residential and sports & entertainment related building projects.

The Role We Want You For

Ask three people at a construction company what a job costs to complete and you will get three answers. All of them are defensible. They come from different systems, different assumptions about what is committed versus spent, and different ideas about how far along the work really is.

The semantic layer is where that gets settled. It is the set of governed definitions that say what a Clayco number means; built once, tested, documented, and used by every report, dashboard, and AI agent downstream. A metric here is not a query someone wrote. It is a decision about meaning that somebody owns.

You will build that layer. The work is SQL and modeling discipline, done carefully, on data that matters to people who will notice if you get it wrong.

The Specifics of the Role

  • Build semantic models on our Snowflake platform, with tests and documentation as part of finished work rather than cleanup afterward
  • Translate business logic from finance, operations, and project controls into models that hold up when someone audits them
  • Move legacy reporting logic onto governed models and help retire what it replaces
  • Keep models working as source systems change, so a field change upstream does not quietly break a number people trust
  • Answer the definitional questions that come back from the business, and write down the answers

Requirements

  • Real SQL. Window functions, complex joins, and the judgment to know when a query is correct rather than merely returning rows.
  • You care whether a number is right. Enough to chase down a variance of a few hundred dollars because it means something is wrong with the logic, not because anyone asked you to.
  • You ask until you understand. The willingness to tell a finance director you do not follow the calculation yet, and keep asking until you do.
  • You can be the person in the middle. Telling two groups their reports disagree, explaining why, and helping them land on one answer.
  • We will hire someone early in their career for this if the fundamentals and the curiosity are there — you would have senior engineers around you to learn from. Dimensional modeling experience, dbt, or construction background are all welcome, none are required.

Some Things You Should Know

  • Our clients and projects are nationwide – Travel will be required.
  • No other builder can offer the collaborative design-build approach that Clayco does.
  • We work on creative, complex, award-winning, high-profile jobs.
