Test Automation Engineer

Job Description

Our client, an autonomous vehicle company, is looking for someone to join their team as a Test Automation Engineer in Foster City, CA.

This is a 6-month W2 contract with benefits offered

In this role, you’ll work closely with Systems, Integration, Software, and Sensor Engineering teams to build scalable network validation solutions, troubleshoot complex networking issues, and ensure the hardware and software systems perform reliably in real-world conditions.

\n

\n

What You Will Be Doing

\n

\n
• Build and maintain Python-based test automation frameworks for Ethernet compliance, integration, and performance validation.

\n

• Develop PCAP/tcpdump tooling and fault-injection scripts to validate network behaviors including ARP, ICMP, FCS, link loss, and failure recovery.

\n

• Configure and manage VLAN-segmented (802.1Q) network topologies across bench and HIL test environments, including power supplies, DAQ systems, and relay controls.

\n

• Validate interoperability between network switches and sensors, ensuring compliance with applicable security and PPAP requirements for Ethernet ECUs.

\n

• Partner cross-functionally with Systems, Integration, Software, and Sensor engineers to identify issues, develop test strategies, and improve network validation coverage.

\n

• Own technical documentation for automation frameworks, test methodologies, and system configurations.

\n

• Leverage CI/CD and DevOps practices to improve the scalability, reliability, and repeatability of network testing.

\n

• Debug complex issues across the full OSI stack, from physical-layer connectivity through application-level protocols.

\n

Required Skills & Experience

\n

\n
• BS/MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with 6+ years of relevant experience.

\n

• Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including the OSI model, TCP/IP, UDP, ICMP, ARP, SNMP, and VLAN (802.1Q) configuration.

\n

• Advanced Python and Bash scripting skills with demonstrated experience developing test automation frameworks, such as pytest.

\n

• Proficiency with network diagnostic and analysis tools including Wireshark, iPerf, tcpdump, traceroute, and ethtool.

\n

• Strong CI/CD and DevOps experience.

\n

• Proven ability to troubleshoot and debug issues across the full networking stack.

\n

• Strong communication and documentation skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple engineering disciplines.

\n

Preferred Skills & Experience

\n

\n
• Experience with DoIP and UDS over IP.

\n

• Knowledge of Automotive Ethernet standards and technologies, including 100BASE-T1, BroadR-Reach, and H-MTD/FAKRA connectors.

\n

• Experience with time synchronization protocols such as IEEE 1588v2/PTP and 802.1AS, particularly in bench or air-gapped environments.
