Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Database Administrator role based in Sacramento, CA. The Database Administrator will manage, maintain, and optimize the organization’s databases supporting research, operations, and reporting. Day-to-day responsibilities include monitoring database performance, implementing backup and recovery strategies, managing user access and security, and performing routine maintenance tasks. The role involves designing and refining database structures, configuring replication, and troubleshooting database issues to ensure high availability and data integrity. The Database Administrator will collaborate with researchers, IT staff, and other stakeholders to support data needs, implement improvements, and ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.\n

- Strong skills in Database Administration and Databases, including installation, configuration, monitoring, and performance tuning.
- Experience with Database Design, including schema creation, normalization, indexing, and optimization for research and operational workloads.
- Proficiency in Troubleshooting database and query issues, diagnosing performance bottlenecks, and resolving errors in a timely manner.
- Knowledge of Replication and high-availability strategies to ensure data consistency, reliability, and minimal downtime.
- Experience with major relational database systems (e.g., SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or Oracle).
- Understanding of data security, access control, and compliance best practices in a research or healthcare-related environment.
- Ability to document database configurations, procedures, and standards clearly and accurately.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally in a diverse team.
