The Project Architect plays a key role in developing design concepts, technical solutions, and comprehensive project documentation across all phases of architectural projects. This position collaborates closely with principals, project managers, designers, technical staff, and consultants to ensure that design intent, building systems, and construction methods are well integrated and accurately documented. The role involves producing detailed drawings and models, supporting quality control processes, conducting site visits, and actively participating in client and stakeholder meetings to communicate design ideas and project progress.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of design concepts, technical solutions, and detailed project documentation for a variety of architectural projects.
  • Collaborate with principals, project managers, designers, and technical staff throughout all project phases to ensure cohesive design and technical coordination.
  • Produce drawings, details, and models that clearly support design intent and maintain a high level of technical accuracy.
  • Coordinate with consultants and assist in integrating structural, MEP, and specialty systems into the overall design.
  • Support quality control efforts through careful documentation, thorough review, and adherence to established standards and best practices.
  • Conduct site visits to perform field measurements and existing-conditions assessments that inform design and documentation.
  • Assist with project research, including building codes, materials, cost benchmarks, and relevant precedents.
  • Participate in client and stakeholder meetings, helping to communicate design ideas, technical considerations, and project updates in a clear and professional manner.
  • Travel as needed for site review, documentation activities, and client engagement to support project delivery.

Essential Skills

  • Professional degree in architecture or preservation.
  • 5–10+ years of architectural experience, including both design and technical development responsibilities.
  • Strong design sensibility with a solid understanding of building systems and construction methods.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Revit for design, modeling, and documentation.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite for design presentation and visual communication.
  • Proficiency in MS Office for documentation, coordination, and communication.
  • Ability to make sound design and technical decisions based on professional experience.
  • Collaborative, detail-oriented, and adaptable approach to working within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Experience with construction documents and construction administration.
  • Registered architect credential preferred.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with renovation or preservation projects is desirable.
  • Experience coordinating with structural, MEP, and specialty consultants.
  • Experience conducting site visits, field measurements, and existing-conditions assessments.
  • Experience supporting quality control processes and adhering to project standards.
  • Strong communication skills for participating in client and stakeholder meetings.
  • Ability to perform project research related to codes, materials, cost benchmarks, and precedents.

Work Environment

This role operates in a hybrid work environment, with an expectation of working in the office three days per week and remotely on other days. The Project Architect works closely with principals, project managers, designers, technical staff, and external consultants in a collaborative studio setting. Daily work involves using Autodesk Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, and MS Office to produce drawings, models, presentations, and documentation. The position includes periodic travel for site reviews, field measurements, and client meetings, as well as time spent in existing buildings and construction environments during assessments and documentation.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Boston, MA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $48.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
