Position Overview

Client is seeking a Technical Specialist (Journeyman) to provide technical subjectmatter expertise for the planning, design, integration, and deployment of audiovisual (AV) and related infrastructure systems across client facilities.

For this role, Journeyman refers to a midlevel technical professional, typically with 610 years of relevant experience supporting infrastructure, AV, or enterprise technology systems. This position is technical in nature and supports program and project efforts by delivering handson technical leadership, solution design input, standards alignment, and system validation. This role is not a help desk or purely project management position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical subjectmatter expert (SME) for AV and related infrastructure systems
  • Translate technical and functional requirements into practical, scalable technical solutions
  • Provide handson technical support and leadership across large, complex system implementations
  • Support design, integration, and deployment of technologies that interface with enterprise systems and networks, including classroom instructional AV, conference room and collaboration technologies, video conferencing systems, digital signage, and supporting control and network components
  • Review and validate technical designs, RFIs, submittals, drawings, and Bills of Materials (BoMs)
  • Identify and recommend best practices and technical standards to achieve highquality solutions
  • Collaborate with Program Managers, vendors, integrators, Facilities, and OCTO technical teams to resolve technical issues and risks
  • Participate in site assessments, field walks, installation reviews, system testing, and commissioning activities
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting and technical issue resolution during deployments
  • Support acceptance testing, verification, and operational readiness
  • Contribute to technical documentation, asbuilt validation, and knowledge transfer to DCPS staff
  • Communicate technical concepts and recommendations to senior technical staff and leadership as needed

Required Experience & Skills

  • Experience equivalent to a Journeyman Technical Specialist (approximately 610 years)
  • Demonstrated expertise supporting AV, infrastructure, or enterprise technology systems
  • Proven experience providing technical leadership on largescale or complex implementations
  • Strong understanding of system integration concepts, including network, security, and control dependencies
  • Ability to communicate technical and functional concepts clearly to technical and nontechnical audiences
  • Experience working with vendors and system integrators in a technical oversight role
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting AV or infrastructure systems in schools, government agencies, or large institutional environments
  • Experience coordinating technical work alongside construction or facilities modernization projects
  • Familiarity with enterprise collaboration platforms and AV control systems
  • Experience developing or enforcing technical standards and best practices
  • Relevant technical certifications (AV, networking, systems, or infrastructure) are a plus

Minimum Education / Certification bachelors degree in information technology or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Important Clarification This role is not Help Desk support and is not limited to physical installation work. The Technical Specialist provides technical design, integration, validation, and SMElevel support across complex systems and initiatives.

Work Conditions Primary work location is onsite at DCPS facilities; limited telework may be permitted per District policy. Standard schedule is 40 hours per week. Occasional offhours work may be required during deployments, testing, or critical cutovers.

Flexible work from home options available.
