Senior Project Manager - HVAC

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager - HVAC to lead the planning, execution and successful delivery of medium to large mechanical and MEP projects within commercial, institutional and industrial sectors. The role is responsible for ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget and to quality, safety and code standards while acting as the primary client and stakeholder contact. The ideal candidate combines deep HVAC/mechanical knowledge with proven construction project management skills and strong leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end project delivery for HVAC and MEP projects, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, procurement, construction oversight, commissioning and closeout.
  • Manage project teams including engineers, site supervisors, subcontractors and vendors; provide direction, mentorship and performance oversight.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for clients, architects, engineers and subcontractors; maintain strong stakeholder relationships and manage expectations.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules (critical path), resource plans and cost forecasts; proactively track progress and implement corrective actions to mitigate risks and delays.
  • Prepare, review and negotiate contracts, change orders and subcontracts; manage commercial terms and claims to protect project margins.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable building codes, mechanical standards, safety regulations and company quality procedures; lead project safety initiatives and jobsite inspections.
  • Coordinate design reviews, constructability assessments and value-engineering to optimize systems, schedules and budgets.
  • Oversee procurement of major mechanical equipment and materials, ensure timely delivery and manage logistics and site storage.
  • Lead commissioning activities and start-up procedures, ensure systems meet performance criteria and handover documentation is complete.
  • Prepare regular project reports, dashboards and presentations for senior leadership and clients; maintain accurate project documentation and record keeping.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management or related technical discipline; equivalent combination of education and experience considered.
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive experience managing HVAC/MEP projects in construction with at least 4 years in a project management or senior supervisory role.
  • Deep technical knowledge of HVAC systems, mechanical equipment, ductwork, piping and controls; experience with MEP coordination and integration.
  • Proven track record delivering projects on schedule and within budget; strong commercial acumen and change management experience.
  • Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (ASHRAE, SMACNA, NFPA, local building codes) and safety regulations (OSHA).
  • Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Construction Manager (CCM) or Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
  • Proficient with project management tools (MS Project, Primavera or similar), estimating software and Microsoft Office; experience with BIM/Revit and clash coordination is a plus.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and negotiation skills; able to lead multidisciplinary teams and build client trust.
  • Strong analytical, risk management and problem-solving abilities; detail-oriented with a focus on quality.
  • Valid drivers license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
