Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced AWS Cloud Solutions Architect / Cloud Engineer with strong expertise in Operational Technology (OT) network architecture, enterprise networking, cybersecurity, network modeling, and legacy system modernization.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, modeling, and supporting highly available and resilient network infrastructure for critical OT environments. This role will focus on integrating OT and IT environments while maintaining strict security segmentation, operational continuity, regulatory compliance, and 24x7 reliability.
The candidate will work closely with networking, cybersecurity, infrastructure, operations, and procurement teams to develop innovative and cost-effective solutions for complex operational environments.
Key ResponsibilitiesOT Network Design & Architecture
- Lead the design, modeling, and long-term planning of OT network infrastructure, including core, distribution, and edge devices.
- Design highly available, resilient, scalable network architectures supporting 24x7 operations.
- Support network infrastructure for critical systems such as:
- CCTV
- Public Address (PA) systems
- CBTC
- Bus Radio
- Power systems
- Cybersecurity systems
- Train and bus operational systems and applications
- Ensure network architectures meet operational reliability, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Develop network models and architecture strategies for future expansion and modernization.
Technical Guidance & Solution Development
- Provide specialized technical guidance to operations teams on OT network projects.
- Analyze complex OT requirements and develop secure, reliable, and scalable technical solutions.
- Address cybersecurity, operational continuity, availability, and performance requirements.
- Evaluate new technologies and determine their applicability to OT environments.
- Develop solutions that provide strong return on investment (ROI) and improve operational efficiency.
OT/IT Integration & Security
- Collaborate with IT teams to integrate OT and IT environments.
- Maintain strict network segmentation and security controls between OT and IT systems.
- Apply cybersecurity principles and best practices to operational technology environments.
- Support secure communication between wired and wireless OT infrastructure.
- Ensure solutions align with applicable security, safety, and industry standards.
Network Standards & Documentation
- Develop and maintain network standards, architecture patterns, modeling standards, and reference documentation.
- Create enterprise architecture models and supporting technical documentation.
- Document current-state and future-state architectures.
- Develop technical standards to support consistent implementation across OT environments.
Innovation & Value Optimization
- Identify innovative networking technologies and solutions to improve reliability, scalability, security, and operational efficiency.
- Evaluate technology investments based on cost, performance, maintainability, and long-term value.
- Lead and coordinate OT network solutions and present technical strategies to management.
- Provide recommendations that maximize technology investment and operational value.
Legacy System Modernization
- Support modernization of legacy OT network infrastructure and operational systems.
- Analyze existing systems and identify opportunities for modernization and improvement.
- Develop highly extensible, resilient, and future-ready network architectures.
- Capture and analyze maintenance and operational information to support modernization initiatives.
- Help transition legacy technologies toward modern network and cloud-enabled architectures where appropriate.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Networking, Cybersecurity, Infrastructure, Operations, and Procurement teams.
- Translate complex network modernization concepts into clear and actionable technical guidance.
- Participate in strategic planning sessions, network strategy meetings, architecture reviews, and solution design workshops.
- Present architecture recommendations and modernization strategies to technical and management stakeholders.
Required Skills & Experience
- Extensive experience designing and supporting Operational Technology (OT) networks.
- Advanced experience designing, modeling, and optimizing core, distribution, and edge network infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of highly available and resilient network architectures for 24x7 operational environments.
- Experience with network architecture supporting critical operational systems.
- Strong knowledge of network design and administration.
- Strong understanding of network virtualization technologies.
- Strong knowledge of wired and wireless networking.
- Experience integrating wireless and wired networks in OT environments.
- Strong understanding of network segmentation and secure OT/IT integration.
- Advanced knowledge of cybersecurity principles applicable to OT environments.
- Experience designing solutions that address operational continuity and security requirements.
- Experience with enterprise architecture modeling and scenario planning.
- Experience developing and maintaining network standards, patterns, and reference architectures.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with enterprise architecture modeling tools, such as Abacus.
- Experience with scenario planning and impact analysis.
- Experience developing enterprise network reference architectures.
- Experience modernizing legacy OT infrastructure.
- Experience working with critical transportation, infrastructure, industrial, or other 24x7 operational environments.
- Knowledge of AWS cloud architecture and cloud networking.
