Facilities Maintenance Technician - Medical Device Manufacturing - $22.50/hr
Job Description
The Facilities Maintenance Technician maintains and repairs the facility’s structures, equipment, and grounds, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC systems, and office furniture. This role performs light carpentry and painting, completes small repairs on walls, roofs, and fixtures, and conducts minor inspections to identify necessary maintenance. The technician supports planned maintenance on all equipment, stays current on tools and processes, and provides regular project updates and progress reports to other departments to support effective planning.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and repair the facility’s structure, including walls, roofs, and office fixtures.
- Perform light carpentry, spot painting, cleaning, light construction, and exterior cleanup as needed.
- Support and perform maintenance and basic troubleshooting of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
- Assist with planned maintenance activities on all facility equipment.
- Conduct minor inspections of the premises to determine necessary repair work and follow up on identified issues.
- Maintain and service appliances such as dishwashers, microwaves, coffee machines, freezers, and refrigerators.
- Adjust temperature thermostats as needed to ensure a comfortable environment.
- Install ergonomic equipment for employees upon request, ensuring proper setup and safety.
- Assist with equipment maintenance and repair, including basic troubleshooting and coordination with vendors when necessary.
- Assist with managing equipment documentation and ensure compliance with applicable procedures and standards.
- Assist with sourcing and ordering equipment, parts, and supplies required for maintenance and repairs.
- Support and escort vendors while on company property and maintain positive working relationships.
- Participate in the 24-hour security call rotation as part of the facilities support team.
- Assist with facility modification projects, including layout changes, minor construction, and improvements.
- Handle recycling of company recyclables, including paper, toner, and batteries, in accordance with internal procedures.
- Maintain regular communication through phone, email, text, and ticketing systems to ensure daily requests are addressed promptly.
- Provide updates and progress reports to various departments on ongoing projects so they can plan accordingly.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of existing equipment, tools, and processes relevant to facility maintenance.
Essential Skills
- At least 6 months of experience performing maintenance and basic troubleshooting of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
- Hands-on experience with facilities maintenance tasks such as light carpentry, painting, minor repairs, and basic construction.
- Proficiency using a variety of hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Ability to perform preventive maintenance on building systems and equipment.
- Competence working with computers and using an app-based Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Strong troubleshooting skills for facility equipment and building systems.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally via phone, email, text, and ticketing systems.
- Capability to participate in a 24-hour security call rotation when required.

Work Environment
This role is based in a clean, orderly facility environment with multiple buildings in a life sciences setting. The standard schedule is currently 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., providing a consistent daytime shift. You will work with building systems such as electrical, plumbing, and HVAC, as well as a variety of appliances and ergonomic equipment. The position involves regular use of hand and power tools, as well as a computer and app-based CMMS for managing preventive maintenance and service tickets. The work includes both indoor facility tasks and occasional exterior cleanup, with a focus on maintaining a safe, organized, and professional environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.50 - $22.50/hr.
