Position Summary:

The Assistant Manager, Wastewater supports the delivery of wastewater operations and maintenance services by assisting with day‑to‑day coordination, oversight, and supervision of field activities across assigned client sites. Working in partnership with the Manager, Wastewater assists with planning, scheduling, documentation, and reporting to support safe, reliable, and compliant system performance, and provides supervisory support to field personnel as needed to ensure continuity of operations and service delivery.

Essential Functions/Position Responsibilities:

  • Uphold and support Company Safety Policies and the Company Code of Conduct.
  • Comply with applicable state and federal environmental and regulatory requirements, including those issued by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), and other applicable regulatory authorities governing wastewater operations and maintenance services.
  • Support the planning, scheduling, and oversight of wastewater treatment, collection, and distribution system operations.
  • Coordinate daily activities of operations, maintenance personnel, and contractors to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant service delivery.
  • Monitor system performance, identify operational risks and compliance concerns, and support corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain operational, maintenance, and regulatory documentation, reports, and records.
  • Process and track approved administrative and operational activities, including work orders, purchase orders, service requests, and contracts.
  • Support data analysis, reporting, system repairs, startups/shutdowns, and minor capital projects in coordination with internal teams and external service providers.
  • Perform other operational and administrative support duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Provide supervisory assistance to field personnel in Manager absence.

Hiring Requirements:

  • 2‑year or 4-year degree in relevant wastewater, environmental, regulatory, or scientific field preferred, and minimum 2 years of related supervisory experience supporting projects, compliance activities, field operations or service delivery in a regulated environment -or- combination of primary and technical education and minimum 4 years of related experience.
  • Hold a Massachusetts Wastewater Grade 2 License issued by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP), or ability to obtain required licensure within six (6) months (company assisted).
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, field personnel, and management, requiring strong interpersonal, organizational, and professional communication skills.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office and related business software, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams (or similar collaboration tools), consistent with reporting, documentation, and operational coordination responsibilities.
  • Ability to lead, prioritize, and coordinate multiple operational tasks and workstreams while supporting field staff and management in a fast‑paced, regulated environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to support supervisory responsibilities, exercise sound judgment, and manage multiple priorities concurrently.
  • OSHA-10 Certification (company-supported if not current), DOT Medical Card (assistance provided), valid unrestricted U.S. driver's license and ability to travel to job sites, successful drug screen, background check, and motor vehicle record (MVR) review per federal/state requirements.
