Job Title: Embedded Software Engineer
Job Description
This role focuses on the design and development of embedded Linux software for connected vehicle systems, including telematics, edge computing, remote diagnostics, over-the-air updates, video streaming, and vehicle network integration. You will serve as the technical lead for a team of embedded engineers, guiding architecture, best practices, and implementation to deliver scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions. You will work hands-on with large mobile equipment in real-world environments and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure predictable and high-quality product releases.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop embedded Linux software for connected vehicle systems, including telematics, edge computing, remote diagnostics, over-the-air updates, video streaming, and vehicle network integration.
- Serve as the technical lead for a team of embedded engineers, providing architectural direction and defining software design patterns and best practices.
- Mentor and support team members by reviewing designs and code, sharing knowledge, and fostering a culture of high-quality engineering.
- Ensure that embedded software solutions are scalable, secure, maintainable, and aligned with overall product architecture and business requirements.
- Work hands-on with large mobile equipment to test, troubleshoot, validate, and optimize embedded software performance in real-world operating conditions.
- Support software testing and validation in manufacturing environments and customer deployments, diagnosing issues and driving effective resolutions.
- Collaborate closely with embedded, cloud, and front-end engineering teams to deliver integrated, end-to-end product solutions.
- Drive cross-functional product delivery by supporting Agile development processes, contributing to planning, and ensuring predictable release execution.
- Identify and remove technical roadblocks that may impede development progress, and proactively address risks and issues.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of development workflows, tools, and processes within the embedded engineering team.
Essential Skills
- 8+ years of experience developing embedded software for complex, mobile systems.
- Strong proficiency in C++ for embedded software development.
- Hands-on experience with embedded Linux, including development, integration, and optimization.
- 5+ years of experience with networking concepts relevant to connected vehicle and telematics systems.
- Experience working with CAN bus and fleet-related communication or control systems.
- Proven ability to design, implement, and debug embedded software in real-world hardware environments.
- Demonstrated experience leading or technically guiding embedded engineering efforts.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with telematics systems and connected vehicle technologies.
- Familiarity with edge computing architectures and remote diagnostics solutions.
- Exposure to over-the-air update mechanisms and secure software update strategies.
- Experience with video streaming in embedded or connected systems.
- Knowledge of Rust for embedded or systems programming.
- Experience working with large mobile equipment or similar industrial hardware platforms.
- Experience collaborating with cloud and front-end teams on integrated solutions.
- Exposure to Agile development methodologies and cross-functional product delivery.
Work Environment
You will work in a collaborative engineering environment that brings together embedded, cloud, and front-end teams to deliver connected vehicle solutions. The role involves hands-on work with large mobile equipment in real-world operating conditions, manufacturing environments, and customer deployments, requiring comfort with on-site testing, troubleshooting, and validation. You will participate in Agile development practices, contributing to regular planning, review, and release activities while using modern software development tools and workflows tailored for embedded Linux systems.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Greenville, WI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $57.00 - $81.00/hr.
