Maintenance Worker I Solid Waste & Recycling

Reports To: Water Department Supervisor
General Purpose
Clinton City is seeking a dependable, customer-focused individual to join the Public Works Department as a Maintenance Worker I Solid Waste & Recycling. This position is responsible for administering and maintaining the City's residential garbage and recycling container programs while assisting with a variety of Public Works maintenance activities.
The successful candidate will deliver excellent customer service, maintain accurate records and inventory, coordinate container services, and support City operations that help keep Clinton clean, safe, and well maintained.
Supervision Received
Works under the general supervision of the Water Department Supervisor.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain the City's residential garbage and recycling container programs, including the delivery, exchange, repair, replacement, and retrieval of garbage and recycling containers.
- Maintain accurate inventory records for garbage and recycling containers, replacement parts, and related equipment.
- Coordinate container deliveries, repairs, warranty claims, exchanges, and service requests with the City's contracted solid waste and recycling provider.
- Respond to resident questions and provide courteous, professional customer service regarding garbage collection, recycling services, container requests, billing referrals, and related Public Works operations.
- Investigate and resolve container- and collection-related concerns in a timely and professional manner.
- Operate City vehicles, equipment, hand tools, and power tools safely and efficiently.
- Assist with seasonal maintenance activities including snow removal, leaf collection, weed control, special projects, and emergency response operations.
- Support other Public Works divisions as assigned to meet operational and community needs.
- Maintain a safe work environment by following City policies, safety procedures, and applicable regulations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous experience in public works, solid waste, construction, landscaping, equipment operation, or a related field is preferred but not required.
Licenses
- Valid Utah Driver License with a satisfactory driving record. Commercial Driver License (CDL) is preferred

Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily outdoors and requires frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and operating equipment in a variety of weather conditions.
The employee must be able to safely lift and carry up to 75 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation, and perform manual labor associated with Public Works operations.
This position may require occasional overtime, emergency response, weekend work, or seasonal assignments as operational needs require.
