The Project Engineer supports the technical execution of aerospace and advanced manufacturing projects from requirements definition through production support. This role works closely with engineering, production, quality, field personnel, and customers to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in alignment with customer requirements and quality standards. This position is ideal for an engineer seeking broad project exposure, hands-on manufacturing experience, and cross-functional collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Support the technical execution of assigned projects, ensuring alignment with customer requirements, schedules, and quality expectations.
- Collaborate with customers, engineering teams, and operations personnel to define requirements, clarify scope, and support project deliverables.
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and requirements to support fabrication, assembly, installation, and production activities.
- Provide hands-on engineering support to manufacturing, integration, testing, and installation efforts.
- Troubleshoot technical issues and help implement practical solutions during production and project execution.
- Assist with project planning, scheduling, material coordination, budgeting, and progress tracking.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including work instructions, test plans, inspection plans, and project records.
- Review technical requirements and support change management activities throughout the project lifecycle.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to identify risks, resolve issues, and support successful project outcomes.
- Maintain documentation in accordance with quality standards and internal processes.
- Communicate project status, technical information, and key decisions to internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrate ownership, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
- 2+ years of experience in engineering, manufacturing, project support, or a related technical environment.
- Understanding of engineering drawings, manufacturing processes, and production operations.
- Experience with CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo, or similar tools.
- Familiarity with technical documentation and controlled document environments.
- Knowledge of quality systems such as AS9100, ISO 9001, or similar standards preferred.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical teams.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Comfortable working in office, production, and field environments.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems is a plus.
- Aerospace, defense, industrial manufacturing, or related industry experience preferred.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working on cross-functional projects involving engineering, operations, quality, and field teams.
- Exposure to aerospace, defense, manufacturing, industrial, or technical services environments preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE), Lean, Six Sigma, or other technical certifications are a plus.
- Ability to balance hands-on technical work with documentation and project coordination responsibilities.
- Adaptable and comfortable working in a dynamic, growing organization.
Work Environment
This position is primarily onsite in Estacada, OR, with regular interaction across office, manufacturing, and project environments. The role includes hands-on support of production, testing, installation, and integration activities as needed. Team members work within established quality and safety systems while utilizing engineering, documentation, and business management tools. Travel may be required based on project needs. Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Estacada, OR.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $43.26 - $50.48/hr.
