Position Summary:
Hillwood is seeking a Property Tax Analyst to join its Property Tax team in Fort Worth, Texas. Reporting to the Director of Ad Valorem Tax, this individual will support the administration and execution of property tax activities across a diverse portfolio of real estate and business personal property assets owned and/or managed by Hillwood companies.
As part of a small, collaborative team, the Property Tax Analyst will assist with property tax compliance, valuation analysis, tax reporting, payment administration, and data management activities related to approximately 3,400 parcels annually. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented and analytically minded professional to develop expertise in property taxation while supporting a complex and growing real estate portfolio.
Responsibilities:
Property Tax Administration and Compliance:
- Develop a working knowledge of property tax processes, including tax identification, tax estimation, return preparation, compliance filings, and payment administration.
- Support the annual administration of real and business personal property tax obligations across Hillwood's portfolio.
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of business personal property compliance requirements and related filings.
- Assist in the review and verification of property tax information to support accurate reporting and payment activities.
Analysis and Valuation Support:
- Support the Property Tax team in providing financial analysis, property valuation support, tax estimates, tax appeal activities, and market research for Hillwood business units.
- Analyze property tax data and supporting documentation to assist with assessment reviews and valuation evaluations.
- Conduct research and prepare analyses to support tax planning, budgeting, and reporting initiatives.
Reporting and Data Management:
- Organize, prepare, and maintain recurring property tax reports and ad hoc analyses.
- Maintain the integrity and accuracy of property tax records, databases, and supporting documentation.
- Manage and update property tax management software and related systems, including data entry, reporting, and process maintenance.
- Identify opportunities to improve reporting capabilities, data management practices, and operational efficiency.
Stakeholder Coordination:
- Maintain effective working relationships with Hillwood associates across multiple business units and functional areas.
- Coordinate with external partners, including consultants, engineers, attorneys, title companies, and governmental agencies.
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with internal and external stakeholders regarding property tax matters.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work across multiple stakeholder groups.
- Ability to prioritize competing responsibilities, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with property valuation methodologies and assessment concepts.
- Working knowledge of accounting principles, financial reports, and related terminology.
- Strong aptitude for data analysis, research, and information management.
- Proactive, self-motivated, and resourceful, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Continuous improvement mindset with the ability to identify process efficiencies and operational enhancements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced Excel capabilities.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum of two years of experience in real estate and/or business personal property taxation within a property tax consulting firm, corporate tax department, or similar environment.
- Experience working with property tax management systems such as ONESOURCE, Property Point, or similar applications required.
- Experience supporting property tax compliance, valuations, appeals, or related tax administration activities preferred.
- Active involvement with the Institute for Professionals in Taxation (IPT) and progress toward Certified Member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation (CMI) designation is a plus.
- Texas Association of Property Tax Professionals (TAPTP) membership is a strong plus.
- Experience utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support research, data analysis, reporting, and process improvement initiatives is a plus.
