Maintenance Technician - 2nd shift

Pay Rate - $28/hr.+

Job Description

The Maintenance Technician safely and efficiently repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment, including production machines, PLCs, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, boilers, plumbing, and electrical systems. This role requires strong attention to food safety, including proper handling of lubricants, food-grade surfaces, and boiler chemicals, while consistently following FDA-GMP and SQF standards to ensure the maintenance program is properly executed.

Responsibilities

  • Observe mechanical devices in operation and listen to equipment sounds to identify and diagnose causes of malfunctions.
  • Dismantle machines and equipment to inspect components, replace defective parts and motors, and adjust feed mechanisms to restore proper operation.
  • Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Repair or replace defective mechanical and electrical parts and install specialized functional and structural components in equipment.
  • Thoroughly clean and reassemble parts and equipment after repairs or maintenance activities.
  • Bend and cut conduit and wire, and drill holes in walls, floors, and ceilings to install and route electrical connections safely and neatly.
  • Set up and operate metalworking tools such as lathes, drill presses, and grinders to fabricate, modify, or repair machine parts.
  • Repair and maintain electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and high-speed production equipment to minimize downtime and support continuous operations.
  • Fulfill Maintenance Master Sanitation Schedules and complete work orders generated from the computerized preventive maintenance program and Food Safety Program.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area following completion of maintenance tasks to support safety and food quality standards.
  • Adhere to all FDA-GMP and SQF requirements related to maintenance activities, including proper use of lubricants, handling of food-grade surfaces, and boiler chemicals.
  • Complete all other maintenance-related duties as assigned to support efficient plant operations.

Essential Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to perform mechanical repairs and maintenance on production machinery and equipment.
  • Hands-on experience working with PLCs and basic understanding of PLC-controlled systems.
  • Strong electrical skills, including working with wiring, conduit, and electrical connections.
  • Proficiency in hydraulic systems, including troubleshooting and repair of hydraulic equipment.
  • Proficiency in pneumatic systems, including troubleshooting and repair of pneumatic tools and components.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and high-speed equipment issues effectively.
  • Three to five years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably with emphasis in hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical, and high-speed equipment.
  • One to two years of experience in HVAC or equivalent technical training.
  • Ability to follow and apply FDA-GMP and SQF standards within the maintenance program.
  • Capability to read, understand, and complete work orders and sanitation schedules from a computerized preventive maintenance system.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Technical training or coursework in HVAC systems or related mechanical and electrical disciplines.
  • Experience working in a food manufacturing or food processing environment with awareness of food safety requirements.
  • Familiarity with boiler systems and boiler-related chemicals used in industrial settings.
  • Ability to safely use metalworking tools such as lathes, drill presses, and grinders for fabrication and repair.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining clean and organized work areas.
  • Effective problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently on assigned maintenance tasks.
  • Willingness to perform a variety of maintenance duties and support continuous improvement of equipment reliability.

Work Environment

This role operates on 2nd shift, Monday through Friday, from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. You work in a manufacturing facility with production machinery, conveyor systems, boilers, and various mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment. The environment requires adherence to food safety and sanitation standards, including FDA-GMP and SQF requirements, and involves regular interaction with lubricants, food-grade surfaces, and boiler chemicals. You use a range of tools and equipment, such as PLC interfaces, metalworking machines, and hand and power tools, while maintaining a clean and orderly workspace appropriate for a food production setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of KANSAS CITY, KS.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $30.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
