POSITION SUMMARY: The Custodian is responsible for maintaining clean, safe, welcoming, and well-presented common areas throughout the Scottsdale Shadows community. This position performs routine and responsive custodial services in residential buildings, administrative and recreational facilities, and other assigned community areas. The Custodian works independently and collaboratively to uphold established cleanliness,safety, and service standards while contributing to a positive experience for residents, guests, and employees.
WHAT THE WORK ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE
This is an active, highly visible role that keeps you moving throughout the community. Much of the work follows established routines, but the day can change quickly when there is a spill, an event, a weather-related condition, or another unexpected need. You will balance scheduled cleaning with responsive work, notice the small details that affect how a space looks and feels, and take responsibility for leaving each assigned area clean, safe, andready for use. Residents may not see every task you complete, but they notice the results. If you enjoy staying active, taking pride in well-maintained spaces, and seeing the immediate impact of your work, you will probably enjoy it here.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Custodial Services and Facility Care
Perform routine and assigned custodial services throughout condominium buildings, offices, recreational facilities, and other community areas. Clean and maintain floors, windows, doors, furnishings, fixtures, elevators, restrooms, laundry rooms, storage areas, stairwells, and other common-use spaces in accordance with established schedules and standards. Respond promptly to spills, unexpected conditions, and other custodial needs.
Community Appearance and Readiness
Maintain assigned areas in a clean, orderly, and welcoming condition. Prepare community spaces for daily use,meetings, activities, and special events as assigned. Monitor the condition of common areas and report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, damage, supply needs, or other conditions requiring attention.
Safety, Equipment, and Supplies
Use cleaning products, tools, and equipment safely and in accordance with established procedures. Maintain assigned equipment in good working condition and promptly report repair or replacement needs. Monitor and replenish custodial supplies while supporting proper storage, inventory control, and responsible use of organizational resources.
Resident Service and Team Collaboration
Interact with residents, guests, vendors, and employees in a courteous, professional, and helpful manner. Respect resident and employee privacy and maintain appropriate confidentiality. Work cooperatively with custodial, maintenance, and other organizational team members to support consistent service and community-wide cleanliness standards.
Organizational Support and Accountability
Follow established schedules, procedures, safety requirements, and organizational policies. Demonstrate reliability, attention to detail, and accountability for assigned areas and responsibilities. Adjust priorities and assist with other custodial, facility, and community needs as directed.
QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous custodial, housekeeping, environmental services, facilities, or related experience preferred.
• Ability to perform custodial work safely, thoroughly, and efficiently with limited supervision.
• Knowledge of basic cleaning methods, products, equipment, and workplace safety practices preferred.
• Strong reliability, attention to detail, and commitment to consistent quality.
• Ability to organize assigned work, respond to changing priorities, and complete responsibilities within
established timeframes.
• Professional, courteous, and service-oriented approach when interacting with residents, guests, and
coworkers.
• Ability to communicate concerns, supply needs, and facility conditions clearly and promptly.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
The position requires regular movement throughout the community and the ability to remain active for extended periods. Work may involve standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, kneeling, and performing repetitive motions; operating custodial equipment; and lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling supplies and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds. The Custodian may work indoors and outdoors, in varying temperatures, and around cleaning products, dust, moisture, and other conditions typically associated with custodial work.
