Bonneville Contracting & Technology Group LLC provides telecommunications, electrical construction, electronic security, and managed technology services throughout Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. We are seeking an Access Control Technician to install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot electronic access control systems for commercial, institutional, and government clients.
Position Summary
The Access Control Technician will support projects and service calls involving card readers, controllers, electronic locking hardware, and related security systems. This position requires practical installation skills, strong troubleshooting abilities, and a professional approach to customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, wire, configure, and test access control panels, card readers, credentials, electric strikes, magnetic locks, request-to-exit devices, door contacts, and power supplies.
- Install, terminate, label, and test low-voltage cabling in accordance with project specifications and manufacturer instructions.
- Configure access control software, including access levels, schedules, users, alarm settings, and controller communications.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, wiring, power, and network communication issues.
- Perform preventive maintenance, system inspections, repairs, and equipment upgrades.
- Support integration with CCTV, intercoms, intrusion detection, and other building systems.
- Verify door operation and coordinate with the project team to confirm applicable egress and life-safety requirements.
- Read drawings, wiring diagrams, equipment schedules, and installation manuals.
- Maintain accurate service reports, test results, equipment inventories, and as-built documentation.
- Coordinate with project managers, IT personnel, electricians, door hardware contractors, and client representatives.
- Train customers on basic system operation and respond professionally to service requests.
- Follow company safety procedures and protect customer credentials, system configurations, and confidential information.
Required Qualifications
- Experience installing, maintaining, or troubleshooting access control or related electronic security systems.
- Working knowledge of low-voltage wiring, relays, power supplies, and electronic door hardware.
- Basic understanding of IP networking, including addressing, switches, and device connectivity.
- Ability to use multimeters, cable testers, hand tools, and power tools.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and troubleshoot problems systematically.
- Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to assigned project sites.
- Ability to work on ladders and lifts and perform field installation duties, with reasonable accommodation where applicable.
- Availability for occasional after-hours work and emergency service calls.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with LenelS2 OnGuard, Genetec, Gallagher, AMAG Symmetry, Software House, or Keri Systems.
- Manufacturer training or certifications in access control or electronic security systems.
- Experience with OSDP and Wiegand reader communications.
- Familiarity with CCTV, intrusion detection, and intercom systems.
- Experience working in occupied facilities, construction sites, or government environments.
- OSHA safety training.
- Ability to communicate in both English and Spanish.
Work Environment
This role involves installation and service work at customer facilities and construction sites. Travel between Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands may be required based on project needs. Certain assignments may require background screening or authorization to enter restricted facilities.
