Position Overview
The Commercial Facilities Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing commercial retail spaces to ensure safe, functional, and attractive facilities. This role focuses on carpentry work across interior, exterior, and finish applications, supporting tenant improvements, and performing routine facility maintenance in commercial settings. The technician will diagnose issues, execute repairs to company standards, and coordinate with vendors and property managers to minimize downtime and support retail operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform interior carpentry work including framing, trim installation, door and millwork repairs, cabinetry adjustments, and finish carpentry to deliver high-quality signage and store interiors.
- Execute exterior carpentry tasks such as fascia, siding, storefront repairs, doorway and exterior trim replacement, and weatherproofing to preserve building envelope integrity.
- Carry out retail carpentry projects, including fixtures, shelving, point-of-sale platforms, and custom shopfitting components to meet brand standards and store layouts.
- Complete tenant improvement and remodel tasks: install partitions, drywall, finishes, and coordinate with other trades as needed to deliver projects on schedule and to specification.
- Respond to service requests and work orders for commercial properties, prioritize jobs, and provide accurate time and materials estimates for repairs and small projects.
- Perform preventative maintenance tasks on building components and fixtures to reduce reactive repairs and prolong asset life.
- Read and interpret drawings, scopes, and basic blueprints to install and modify structures per plans (preferred skill).
- Coordinate with subcontractors, plumbing and electrical trades, vendors, and property managers to ensure safe, code-compliant work and timely project completion.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and job costs, and ensure compliance with company safety policies and local building regulations.
- Operate hand and power tools, lifting equipment and perform work at heights when required while following safety procedures and wearing appropriate PPE.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Commercial Facilities Technician or similar role in commercial and retail environments (3+ years preferred).
- Strong skills in retail carpentry, interior carpentry, exterior carpentry, and finish carpentry with a portfolio or examples of completed commercial projects.
- Experience working on commercial properties and familiarity with commercial construction standards and terminology.
- Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints and scopes (preferred).
- Familiarity with tenant improvement carpentry and remodeling workflows (preferred).
- Plumbing experience or the ability to perform basic plumbing repairs and coordinate with licensed plumbers when required (preferred).
- Proficient with hand and power tools, trade equipment, and safe work practices; comfortable working at heights and in varied weather conditions.
- Valid drivers license and reliable transportation; willingness to travel between sites during the workday.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize multiple service requests, and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
- Willingness to pass background checks and any required drug screenings; OSHA or other safety certifications are a plus.
