Maintenance Technician - Food Manufacturing

Position Overview
We are seeking a reliable, safety-focused Maintenance Technician to support production in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment. The technician will perform mechanical,and electrical food processing and packaging equipment to ensure continuous, sanitary and efficient operations. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with food machinery, strong mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to food safety and GMP practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on food processing and packaging equipment, including conveyors, mixers, ovens, fillers, sealers and packaging lines.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems (bearings, gearboxes, belts, drives), basic electrical systems
  • Execute emergency breakdown repairs to minimize downtime and safely return equipment to production.
  • Perform routine inspections and document maintenance activities, parts used and repair history in the CMMS.
  • Support cleaning- and sanitation-related maintenance tasks in compliance with GMPs and food safety programs; coordinate repairs to allow timely CIP/SIP processes.
  • Maintain and organize spare parts inventory; recommend and purchase critical parts and tools as needed.
  • Read and interpret mechanical and electrical schematics, P&IDs and equipment manuals to guide repairs and improvements.
  • Fabricate and modify components as needed using welding, cutting and basic machining techniques.
  • Collaborate with production, quality and engineering teams to troubleshoot process issues and recommend reliability improvements.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and preventive maintenance programs and contribute to safety and compliance initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on maintenance experience in a food manufacturing or similiar
  • Strong mechanical skills: bearings, gearboxes, conveyors, belt and chain drives, etc.
  • Experience with pneumatics and hydraulics, valves and actuator maintenance.
  • Familiarity with food safety and quality systems (GMPs, HACCP, SQF/BRC) and the ability to perform maintenance in a way that supports sanitation requirements.
  • Proven ability to read electrical/mechanical schematics, wiring diagrams and technical manuals.
  • Experience using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to schedule and record work.
  • Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills, good communication and teamwork, and the ability to work flexible shifts including nights, weekends or overtime as required.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, work in cold/hot environments and wear appropriate PPE.
