Maintenance Helper
We are pleased to recruit for a company whose corporate purpose is to create chemistry for a sustainable future and has been doing so for 150 years. Their portfolio ranges from chemicals, plastics, performance products and crop protection products to oil and gas. Their products and solutions contribute to conserving resources, ensuring nutrition and improving quality of life. Our client is expanding and seeking a Maintenance Helper in Deer Park, TX.
The Maintenance Helper is an essential support role within the Maintenance Department, directly contributing to the reliability and smooth operation of the Chemical Production Facility. This role is designed to enhance maintenance efficiency by taking on critical housekeeping, lubrication, and safety monitoring tasks. By performing these duties effectively, the Maintenance Helper ensures maintenance technicians can focus on complex mechanical and electrical jobs, thereby increasing productivity and equipment uptime.
Responsibilities:
· Assist maintenance technicians with hands-on tasks, including:
o Transporting tools, equipment, and materials to job sites.
o Setting up and breaking down equipment before and after maintenance tasks.
o Preparing work areas by laying out tools, protective equipment, and spill containment materials.
· Support technicians with basic mechanical tasks such as:
o Removing bolts, fasteners, or covers.
o Holding components in place during installation or removal.
o Assisting in the alignment of pump and motor assemblies.
· Use basic hand tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers) and power tools (grinders, drills) safely under supervision.
· Safely operate material handling equipment such as hand trucks, carts, and hoists.
· Assist in the collection and disposal of old or replaced parts, worn gaskets, and other materials.
2. Lubrication and Routine Maintenance Tasks:
· Perform routine lubrication of rotating equipment, including pumps, motors, and conveyors, following the plant's lubrication schedule.
· Use grease guns, oil cans, and automatic lubrication devices to properly maintain equipment.
· Check and top up lubricant levels as specified in maintenance manuals.
· Monitor for lubrication-related issues such as oil leaks, excessive grease buildup, or abnormal wear on moving parts.
· Maintain accurate logs of lubrication activities, including type of lubricant used, date, and equipment identification.
· Report any abnormal findings (e.g., unusual noises, excessive vibration) during lubrication rounds.
· Follow best practices for contamination control, including using clean rags, proper storage of oils and greases, and labeling containers correctly.
3. Housekeeping and Site Maintenance:
· Maintain cleanliness in all maintenance areas, including the workshop, equipment storage rooms, and maintenance office.
· Perform regular cleaning and organization of tools, ensuring they are properly stored and in good condition.
· Clean up spills of chemicals, oils, and greases immediately, following plant safety protocols for hazardous material handling.
· Maintain cleanliness around pumps, motors, and rotating equipment to prevent buildup of dust and debris.
· Clean and organize the maintenance vehicle and ensure it is stocked with basic tools and safety equipment.
· Collect and properly dispose of used rags, filters, and other maintenance debris following environmental regulations.
· Regularly sweep, mop, and sanitize common maintenance areas, including break rooms and tool storage.
4. Fire Watch and Confined Space Monitoring:
· Act as a Fire Watch during welding, cutting, and grinding operations:
o Maintain a clear line of sight to hot work areas.
o Monitor for sparks, smoke, or any sign of fire.
o Be equipped with fire extinguishers and blankets and know the emergency procedures.
· Serve as a Hole Watch during confined space activities:
o Continuously monitor the workers inside the confined space.
o Maintain radio communication and ensure an immediate response plan is in place.
o Monitor gas readings if required and be prepared to raise an alarm in case of an emergency.
· Follow all Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures when involved in maintenance activities.
· Perform safety inspections of fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, and safety showers in maintenance areas.
5. Documentation and Reporting:
· Accurately fill out maintenance logs, lubrication schedules, and housekeeping checklists.
· Report completed tasks to the maintenance supervisor at the end of each shift.
· Participate in daily safety briefings and maintenance meetings, providing updates on assigned tasks.
· Maintain records of all maintenance support activities and document any issues observed.
· Assist in preparing maintenance reports by gathering data and completing forms as needed.
Requirements:
· Experience in industrial maintenance support or a similar role is preferred.
· Basic mechanical knowledge, especially regarding lubrication and equipment handling.
· Knowledge of safety practices related to confined spaces, hot work, and chemical handling.
· Ability to follow verbal and written instructions precisely.
· Excellent attention to detail and commitment to safety protocols.
· Physical ability to lift to 50 lbs, work in confined spaces, and perform tasks at height.
· Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and emergency callouts.
· Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively with other maintenance staff.
Must have a valid driver’s license and current state required minimum vehicle insurance coverage to drive onto Client and Company property
Education: High school diploma or GED

Pay Rate: The pay range for this position is $16.00 – 17.00 per hour; however, the pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This pay information is being provided pursuant to applicable law and is based in part on market location.
Work Schedule: Mon-Friday; 6:45 AM – 2:00 PM
