Job Title: Facilities Maintenance Technician

Job Description
The Facilities Maintenance Technician inspects, operates, repairs, and maintains a wide range of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC equipment that supports institutional and high-tech research laboratory facilities. This role focuses on ensuring reliable operation of building systems, specialized lab utilities, and critical infrastructure across a college campus environment.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, operate, repair, and maintain electrical, mechanical, and plumbing equipment to ensure safe and reliable facility operations.
- Maintain specialized systems common to institutional and high-tech research laboratory facilities, including lights, receptacles, circuit breakers, motors, switches, alarms, pumps, valves, fans, compressors, HVAC systems, heaters, tanks, emergency generators, and similar equipment.
- Service and maintain expansion tanks, sinks, commodes, process water systems, and circulating pumps to support building and lab operations.
- Maintain laboratory air compressors, laboratory vacuum pumps, high purity water systems, and Bio-Safety Lab (BSL) support systems in accordance with facility standards and safety requirements.
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance on commercial HVAC systems, including troubleshooting and resolving issues to minimize downtime.
- Maintain and repair commercial lighting and other facility electrical equipment such as outlets, alarms, signage, and building control systems.
- Utilize appropriate tools and test equipment, including volt meters, to diagnose electrical issues and verify proper system operation.
- Apply proper electrical safety practices when working with 120, 220, 277, and 480-volt systems.
- Respond to maintenance requests and work orders in a timely manner, prioritizing tasks to support critical facilities such as data centers and research spaces.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support overall facility maintenance, including mechanical, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing tasks.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working on commercial HVAC equipment; residential-only experience is not sufficient.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working on commercial lighting and facility electrical equipment, including outlets, alarms, signage, and building control systems.
- Ability to use volt meters accurately for troubleshooting and verifying electrical system performance.
- Strong understanding of electrical safety practices for 120, 220, 277, and 480-volt systems.
- Hands-on experience with mechanical systems in a facility maintenance setting.
- Practical HVAC skills, including troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of commercial systems.
- Experience with plumbing systems, including sinks, commodes, valves, pumps, and process water systems.
- Ability to maintain and repair pumps, fans, compressors, heaters, tanks, and emergency generators.
- Capability to work with specialized lab support systems such as lab air compressors, lab vacuum pumps, high purity water systems, and BSL-related equipment.
- General facility maintenance skills across electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and plumbing disciplines.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Decatur, GA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
