Job Summary:

The Maintenance Environmental Utility Tech provides daily support, monitoring, and maintenance related to the operation, maintenance, and repair of ammonia refrigeration, wastewater, boiler, HVAC, water filtration, and utility equipment/systems and supports other areas of the plant as needed.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Ensures compliance with and adherence to applicable codes, ordinances, building and safety standards pertaining to ammonia refrigeration, wastewater, boiler, HVAC, water filtration, and utility equipment/systems.
  • Cross trains and performs general and preventive system, equipment and facility maintenance activities and responds to trouble calls.
  • Initiates purchase orders for parts and service.
  • Works to conserve organizational resources and stay within approved budget.
  • Maintains working knowledge of new technologies and regulations and strives to continuously build knowledge and skills; shares expertise with others.
  • Completes equipment logs/reports in a neat, accurate and timely manner.
  • Assists in developing and maintaining comprehensive hazardous material and spill prevention programs.
  • Recognizes dangerous and emergency conditions within the process and performs procedures necessary to remove the condition, shut down the process/facility and/or initiate emergency evacuation and notification procedures.
  • Exhibits sound and accurate judgment and includes appropriate people in decision­ making process.
  • Follows policies and procedures and observes safety and security procedures. Uses equipment and materials properly and reports potentially unsafe conditions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.


Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • One year certificate from college or technical school related to refrigeration, boiler, and/or HVAC.
  • Skill with PLCs and Instrumentation a plus.


Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • May work long hours of work to reach goals, including weekend work as needed.
