Job Description
POSITION: MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR
REPORTS TO: INDUSTRIAL AUTOMATION ENGINEER MANAGER
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: FULL-TIME – EXEMPT
PRIMARY POSITION OBJECTIVE
Coordinate and exercise functional responsibility for planning, control, and execution of hands-on electrical and mechanical maintenance activities. As a working supervisor, spend approximately 50% of time troubleshooting and repairing machinery (motors, VFDs, conveyors, PLCs, MCCs) and 50% supervising and developing the maintenance team. Oversee preventative maintenance scheduling for production, facilities, and utilities equipment—emphasizing electrical reliability and safety compliance.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Direct, coach, and work alongside maintenance technicians to perform electrical wiring, motor control installation, PLC logic troubleshooting, conduit routing, and VFD commissioning.
- Establish daily and weekly work priorities—balancing planned preventative maintenance and emergent electrical repairs—to minimize downtime and maximize production efficiency.
- Maintain and analyze equipment logs, electrical test records, and root-cause reports to identify recurring electrical faults. Forecast repair projects, specify replacement parts (breakers, relays, sensors), and track arc-flash mitigation needs.
- Supervise completion of Work Orders, including lockout/tagout procedures, NFPA 70E compliance, and electrical safety audits. Ensure all documentation is accurate and stored per ISO 9001.
- Coordinate electrical vendor service calls for high-voltage equipment and substation maintenance. Collaborate with Engineering on new electrical equipment specifications and contractor oversight.
- Schedule, conduct, and record safety and technical training for direct reports—covering electrical code updates, troubleshooting best practices, and 5S in the maintenance shop.
- Administer performance feedback, corrective action, and career-development plans for maintenance technicians. Conduct quarterly performance reviews and identify cross-training opportunities in both mechanical and electrical disciplines.
- Lead weekly department meetings to review KPIs (work order completion rates, mean time to repair, spare-parts inventory turns) and align on continuous improvement objectives.
- Manage spare-parts inventory for electrical components—transformers, fuses, cables—to ensure minimal production interruptions while controlling costs.
- Support staffing efforts: interview, select, and onboard maintenance technicians. Approve overtime and vacation schedules. Verify technician timecards.
- Ensure all maintenance practices conform to applicable electrical codes, company policies, and safety regulations. Demonstrate exemplary leadership through hands-on involvement and clear communication.
