Job DescriptionMaintenance & Custodial Technician – Part-Time

Jackson, MI | 20–25 hours/week | Monday–Friday | $16/hour

Looking for a part-time weekday job where you can stay active, work independently, and see the results of your work?

Segue, Inc. is looking for a dependable, hands-on Maintenance & Custodial Technician to help keep our facilities clean, safe, functional, and welcoming. This position is a mix of routine custodial work, basic maintenance and repairs, grounds upkeep, and general facility support.

You don't need to be a skilled-trades expert. If you're comfortable using basic tools, can handle minor repairs, take pride in keeping things clean and well maintained, and are someone others can depend on, we'd like to hear from you.

About Segue

Segue, Inc. is a nonprofit behavioral health organization providing community-based mental health services in Jackson and Hillsdale Counties. As a provider within the local community mental health (CMH) system, Segue partners with LifeWays and other local agencies to provide services that support recovery, independence, and quality of life for individuals in our communities.

Our employees work in a variety of clinical, support, and administrative roles to help make those services possible. In this position, you'll contribute to that mission by helping ensure our facilities are safe, clean, functional, and welcoming for both employees and the individuals we serve.

What You'll Do

This is a hands-on position with plenty of variety. Responsibilities include:

  • Perform routine cleaning and custodial work throughout the facility.
  • Complete basic building maintenance, minor repairs, and general upkeep.
  • Help maintain entrances, sidewalks, parking areas, and grounds.
  • Assist with seasonal needs such as snow and ice removal, salting, and outdoor cleanup.
  • Identify maintenance or safety concerns and report needs requiring specialized repair.
  • Assist with room setup, furniture movement, supplies, equipment, and other facility needs.
  • Follow established safety practices when using tools, equipment, cleaning products, and chemicals.
  • Assist with other general facility projects as needed.

You won't be expected to perform work that requires a licensed tradesperson. We are looking for someone who can handle everyday maintenance and custodial needs and recognize when a job requires additional expertise. These responsibilities reflect the core scope of the position in the internal job description.

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous custodial, maintenance, facilities, or similar hands-on experience.
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning, routine maintenance, tools, equipment, and safe work practices.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
  • Dependability, good judgment, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to identify and communicate maintenance and safety concerns.
  • Basic computer skills for email and simple work-related documentation.
  • Ability to perform the physical responsibilities of the position, with reasonable accommodation as applicable.

Helpful, But Not Required:

Experience or training in basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, groundskeeping, preventive maintenance, or other building-maintenance work is a plus—but we don't expect you to be an expert in all of these areas.

Schedule

This is a part-time position averaging 20–25 hours per week, Monday through Friday.

We offer flexibility in scheduling and are open to discussing start and end times that work for both the employee and the needs of the organization. An earlier start—around 7:00 a.m. when possible—is especially helpful during winter weather so sidewalks and entrances can be cleared and salted before normal business activity begins.

No regular weekend schedule is required.

Compensation & Benefits

Starting Pay: $16.00/hour
Schedule: 20–25 hours per week, Monday–Friday
PTO
Paid Holidays
Vision & Dental Insurance after 60 Days
