The Shop Locksmith Technician is responsible for providing professional locksmith services in the Michael's Keys shop, including key cutting, lock servicing, rekeying, lock installation, duplication, repair, and related locksmith work. This position requires strong attention to detail, mechanical ability, customer-service skills, reliability, and a commitment to quality and security.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Cut, duplicate, originate, and program keys as required.
  • Rekey, repair, install, and service residential, commercial, automotive, and specialty locks as assigned.
  • Diagnose lock and key problems and determine appropriate repair or replacement solutions.
  • Disassemble, clean, lubricate, repair, and reassemble locks and related hardware.
  • Operate key-cutting machines, programmers, code machines, and other locksmith equipment safely and properly.
  • Maintain accurate records of keys, locks, parts, customer orders, and completed work.
  • Verify customer authorization and ownership/authorization before performing security-related work.
  • Provide professional, courteous customer service and explain work performed and recommended.
  • Prepare accurate estimates, invoices, and documentation when required.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and secure shop and work area.
  • Maintain and properly account for Company tools, equipment, keys, codes, and security-related information.
  • Follow all Company policies, safety procedures, security requirements, and quality standards.
  • Assist with inventory management, receiving, stocking, and ordering locksmith parts and supplies.
  • Protect customer property and confidential security information at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous locksmith, key-cutting, mechanical, hardware, or related experience preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Ability to learn and operate locksmith machinery and electronic programming equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems and work independently.
  • Basic computer and technology skills.
  • Professional communication and customer-service skills.
  • Dependable attendance, punctuality, and strong work ethic.
  • Ability to safely lift, carry, and handle tools, equipment, locks, and related materials.
  • Valid driver's license may be required depending on job duties.

The Shop Locksmith Technician is expected to perform work accurately, safely, efficiently, and professionally. Because locksmith work involves the security of customers, employees, and property, honesty, integrity, confidentiality, and strict adherence to authorization procedures are essential requirements of this position.
