This role focuses on maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving automated production and material handling equipment in a modern, highly automated facility. You will perform preventative maintenance, diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electrical issues, support continuous improvement initiatives, and informally lead the maintenance team to ensure maximum equipment uptime and operational reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance on automated production and material handling equipment to ensure reliable and efficient operation.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and conveyor systems to resolve equipment issues quickly.
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns, diagnose root causes, and minimize downtime through effective repair actions.
  • Work with automated systems, PLC-controlled machinery, sensors, drives, motors, and robotics equipment to maintain and improve performance.
  • Monitor equipment performance and identify opportunities to increase reliability, efficiency, and overall equipment effectiveness.
  • Complete work orders and maintenance documentation accurately and in a timely manner using computer-based maintenance systems.
  • Conduct routine inspections of facility equipment and building systems to detect potential issues before they become critical.
  • Collaborate closely with operations and production teams to ensure maximum equipment uptime and support production goals.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and process optimization projects to enhance automation and controls.
  • Follow all safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, and regulatory requirements to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Assist with installation, testing, and commissioning of new automated equipment and systems.
  • Informally lead the maintenance team by supporting scheduling, training, and coaching activities.
  • Manage the computer-based preventative maintenance program, including planning repair actions and responding urgently to equipment failures.
  • Perform advanced hands-on troubleshooting and diagnostics, with a strong focus on automation and control systems.
  • Maintain operational, safety, and environmental compliance, including wastewater compliance, safety training logs, and computerized maintenance records.
  • Implement preventative maintenance programs for both equipment and facility infrastructure.
  • Coach other members of the maintenance team through hands-on demonstration and knowledge sharing on plumbing, electrical, steam, controls, PLCs, welding, and mechanical systems.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience in a production or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting skills, including low voltage systems and three-phase power.
  • Hands-on experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical systems in an industrial setting.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and maintaining automation systems, including PLC-controlled machinery.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical documentation.
  • Experience with PLC troubleshooting and PLC control for automated equipment.
  • Skilled in diagnosing issues with sensors, drives, motors, and robotics equipment.
  • Knowledge of steam and boiler operation and related control systems.
  • Understanding of safety compliance requirements, including lockout/tagout and environmental regulations.
  • Ability to manage and use computer-based preventative maintenance programs and maintenance record systems.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience informally leading or coaching maintenance team members on technical tasks.
  • Background in plumbing, electrical, steam, controls, PLCs, welding, and mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with wastewater compliance and maintaining related documentation.
  • Ability to maintain accurate safety training logs and computerized maintenance records.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills with a focus on automation and controls.
  • Comfort working in a highly automated, technology-driven production environment.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with operations and production teams.

Work Environment

You will work in a super clean, fully automated environment that emphasizes safety, organization, and modern technology. The standard schedule is first shift, Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Overtime, when needed, is scheduled by starting earlier rather than staying late, supporting work-life balance. The facility is highly automated, equipped with advanced production and material handling systems, PLC-controlled machinery, and robotics, providing a professional and technology-rich setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $36.00 - $38.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
