Core Responsibilities of the Medical Director
- Provide administrative leadership and oversight of all medical services, ensuring compliance with DCF, DEA, Joint Commission, and AHCA standards.
- Develop, implement, and review medical policies and procedures, including infection control and communicable disease reporting.
- Supervise and collaborate with medical staff, including PAs, Nurse Practitioners, and nursing team members.
- Perform crisis intervention as needed (e.g., SI/HI, self-harm, substance use relapse, medication non-compliance).
- Oversee medication management, including controlled substances, emergency kits, and compliance with state and federal guidelines.
- Ensure timely completion of patient medical services, admissions, assessments, and treatment planning.
- Participate in treatment team meetings, risk management, and quality assurance initiatives.
- Manage caseloads in compliance with state regulations for various levels of care (detox, residential, outpatient).
- Positively represent and promote the facility, advocating for patient safety, confidentiality, and high standards of care.
Qualifications of the Medical Director
- Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree from an accredited medical school.
- Current physician license in the state of Florida, in good standing with no active administrative actions.
- Strongly preferred: Experience in substance abuse treatment and behavioral health.
- Knowledge of federal and state regulations including Chapter 397, F.S., Chapter 65D-30, F.A.C., and controlled substances management.
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams effectively and foster collaboration across clinical and non-clinical staff.
- Demonstrated expertise in crisis intervention, psychiatric evaluation, withdrawal management, and integrated treatment for co-occurring disorders.
- Must pass a National and Level II Background Check.
