General Summary: Provide overall support in the maintenance, cleanliness, safety, and day-to-day operations of both the ice arena and campus grounds by following a split, seasonal schedule focused on ice arena operations during the skating/hockey season, and working with the grounds crew during the spring and summer seasons. Support the overall mission and operations of the School to ensure operational excellence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Ice Arena Responsibilities (September-February):

  • Operate and maintain the ice resurfacer and other ice maintenance equipment.
  • Perform routine ice resurfacing, edging, scraping, and ice repair.
  • Assist with ice installation and removal.
  • Monitor and help maintain ice making and refrigeration equipment.
  • Assist with operation and upkeep of boilers, HVAC systems, dehumidification equipment, pumps, and mechanical systems.
  • Maintain proper temperature, humidity, and arena operations.
  • Complete routine facility inpsections to identify maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Assist with locker room, bleacher, lobby, restroom, and common area cleaning.
  • Set up and break down for practices, games, tournaments, skating programs, and special events.
  • Assist with dasher board, glass, netting, and arena equipment maintenance.
  • Remove snow and ice from arena entrances, walkways, and surrounding areas as needed.
  • Help ensure the arena is clean, safe, and ready for daily use by students, staff, families, and outside guests.
  • Respond to maintenance requests and assist with minor facility repairs.
  • Follow all safety procedures related to rink operations and equipment use.

Grounds Responsibilities (March-August)

  • Perform routine grounds maintenance to maintain a safe, clean, and attractive campus environment.
  • Operate grounds equipment such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, utility carts, and small tractors.
  • Assist with mowing, trimming, edging, mulching, weeding, and watering.
  • Support seasonal landscaping projects such as planting and flower bed maintenance.
  • Assist with athletic field and outdoor facility preparation.
  • Maintain campus sidewalks, parking lots, signage, fencing, and exterior common spaces.
  • Remobe debris, trash, leaves, branches, and storm-related materials from campus grounds.
  • Assist with irrigation checks and minor repairs.
  • Support outdoor event setup and breakdown as needed.
  • Assist with general building and campus maintenance projects.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and storage/work areas in a safe and organized condition.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience in grounds, facilities maintenance, mechanical systems or ice rink operations and equipment preferred.
  • Working technical experience and knowledge to be able to maintain rink machinery and perform minor repairs as needed; basic knowledge of mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, electrical or refrigeration systems preferred.
  • Ability to safely operate maintenance equipment and tools.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and maintain a professional and positive attitude with the community.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules: evenings, weekends, emergency coverage, and holidays when needed.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, work effectively both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-3 years’ experience.
