JOB OVERVIEW: We are seeking a full-time Ophthalmic testing technician for our patient care team primarily in our RV office, with the ability to travel to satellite locations as needed. We are looking for a talented individual eager to learn and grow. No experience? No problem! We will provide on-the-job training to the right candidate. The candidate will use specialized equipment to perform eye tests and imaging, assist with preparing patients for their exams, and ensure accurate documentation of results. The candidate's work will help the doctors diagnose and manage eye conditions — all while making patients feel comfortable and cared for.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Communication: Relay appropriate information to/from patients to doctors or management.
  • Diagnostic Testing: Perform specialized ophthalmic tests such as:
    • Visual acuity tests
    • Visual field testing (Humphrey Visual Field)
    • Tonometry
    • Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
    • Fundus photography
    • Corneal topography
    • A/B-scan
    • Other testing
  • Maintain Records: Review patient accounts, review the needed tests and procedures, and record test results in patients' charts or electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Patient Interaction: Guide, instruct, and explain testing procedures to patients.
  • Prioritization: Ability to navigate through daily assignments such as completing voicemails, Patient messages and tasks, including prescription refills, faxes, and prior authorization.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Clean, maintain, and calibrate ophthalmic instruments and machines. Troubleshoot equipment issues and ensure compliance with safety and hygiene standards.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure adherence to healthcare standards, HIPAA, and safety regulations.
  • Continuous Learning and Collaboration: Stay updated on ophthalmic testing technology and techniques advancements. Participate in team meetings or training sessions to improve testing efficiency and patient outcomes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work in a dimly lit setting
  • Availability to work Monday – Friday and two Saturday's a month.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience in a medical setting or Ophthalmology experience (preferred)
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and manage time well
  • Excellent active listening skills and professionalism
  • Bilingual (Spanish preferred)
