Job Description
Job Title: Safety Director Job Status: Full-Time/Exempt
Reporting: This position reports to the Corporate VP of Safety and Risk.
Summary:
The Safety Director leads operations in the areas of planning and injury prevention, task assessment, communications, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance. Implements, and manages company safety initiatives, policies, and procedures. Builds support through aligning with the corporate management teams to develop vision and strategy to enhance an injury free environment. This position requires flexibility and a desire to constantly learn other safety disciplines as the company grows and diversifies.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the Environmental, Health and Safety of all divisions that fall under Client Policies & Programs; Including all projects, fabrication shops and campuses.
- Provides technical expertise, strategic leadership, and support for all regulatory compliance safety issues
- Reports safety performance measurement with a focus on leading indicators
- Reinforces safety culture with field employees, including sub-contractors
- Provides and oversees safety training and tracking for employees.
- Collaborate with Purchasing and Warehousing departments regarding the selection, purchasing/stocking, and distribution of Personal Protective Equipment.
- Ensures that the safety staff are performing frequent site visits and inspections.
- Oversees and maintains a safety training log for all employees.
- Maintains OSHA and MSHA recordkeeping logs for all divisions.
- Follows up on any OSHA or MSHA related issues, citations and/or paperwork requirements.
- Oversee safety prequalification process with clients and subcontractors, including the oversight of ISNET and Avetta.
- Attends project related safety and pre-construction meetings.
- Creates, maintains, and updates Safety Manuals and SDS Manuals.
- Coordinates, amends, and administers safety incentives and awards.
- Assists with managing the General Liability and Workers Compensation losses and assists with any loss control issues identified by the Client's insurance carriers.
- Assists in incident, injury and near miss investigations, including notifications, accompaniment to the medical facility, assisting with Return-to-Work solutions, and claim documentation.
- Periodic overnight travel is required based on project needs.
- Responsible for the daily oversight of the designated Safety department employees
- Adheres to the company’s safety policies to create a safe work environment.
- Involvement with Safety and trade associations in Central Ohio/North Central Ohio to become recognized as the safety leader for client.
- Utilizes Benchmark Gensuite for all electronic safety reporting and process management.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications/Skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, or equivalent required
- Ten (10) years prior experience in industrial or construction safety required
- BCSP certification required.
- Valid OSHA 500 certification preferred
- Ability to train on: Fall Protection/Confined Space/LOTO/MEWP
- Five (5) years prior experience in a leadership position required
- Strong Microsoft Office skills required
- Must have excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
