Location: Detroit, Michigan and Surrounding Metro Detroit Areas Job Type: Full-Time | Part-Time | On-Call Position: Armed & Unarmed Security Agent Reports To: Director of Security / Assigned Supervisor About Top Shelf Security Services Inc. As the Kings of Security, we are building a disciplined and professional team of Security Agents who understand that security is more than simply being present. Our Agents are expected to remain alert, communicate effectively, document incidents accurately, follow established procedures, and provide clients and the public with a professional security presence. We are currently seeking qualified applicants for both Armed and Unarmed Security Agent positions throughout Detroit and the surrounding Metro Detroit area. Position Summary The Security Agent is responsible for protecting assigned client properties, personnel, visitors, residents, customers, equipment, and other designated assets. Depending on the assignment, Security Agents may be responsible for access control, foot or vehicle patrols, monitoring activity, enforcing site rules, observing and reporting suspicious behavior, responding to incidents, completing reports, assisting with emergencies, and communicating with clients, supervisors, law enforcement, emergency personnel, and members of the public. Security Agents must maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times while representing Top Shelf Security Services Inc. Primary Responsibilities Security Agents may be responsible for:Maintaining a visible and professional security presence at assigned locations.Protecting client property, employees, visitors, residents, customers, equipment, and assets.Conducting routine interior and exterior patrols.Monitoring entrances, exits, parking lots, buildings, construction sites, facilities, and other assigned areas.Controlling access to restricted or authorized areas.Checking employee, visitor, vendor, contractor, or delivery credentials when required.Monitoring suspicious persons, vehicles, activities, or circumstances.Identifying potential security risks, hazards, policy violations, or unsafe conditions.Immediately reporting serious security concerns to the appropriate supervisor.Responding professionally to alarms, disturbances, emergencies, disputes, and other incidents within the Agent’s training and authority.Contacting law enforcement, fire departments, EMS, or emergency services when necessary.Assisting with emergency evacuations and established emergency procedures.Maintaining accurate activity logs.Completing detailed incident reports before the end of the assigned shift when required.Documenting unusual activity, accidents, property damage, safety concerns, policy violations, or other significant incidents.Following all client post orders and Top Shelf Security Services policies and procedures.Maintaining confidentiality regarding clients, employees, incidents, investigations, and company information.Communicating professionally with supervisors, clients, coworkers, law enforcement, emergency personnel, and members of the public.Providing professional customer service while maintaining security standards.Reporting to work on time, properly groomed, and in the required uniform.Remaining alert and attentive for the entire assigned shift.Properly maintaining company-issued equipment.Following established chain-of-command procedures.Participating in required company training, orientation, evaluations, and continuing education.Performing additional security-related duties as assigned. Unarmed Security Agent Responsibilities Unarmed Security Agents may be assigned to:Commercial propertiesResidential propertiesOffice buildingsConstruction sitesRetail locationsSpecial eventsCommunity facilitiesParking areasAccess-control postsReception or lobby securityMobile or stationary security assignments Unarmed Agents must understand de-escalation, conflict management, observation, reporting, emergency response, and professional communication. An Unarmed Security Agent must never represent themselves as law enforcement or exceed the authority provided by applicable law, company policy, client post orders, or their assigned responsibilities. Armed Security Agent Responsibilities Armed Security Agents perform many of the same responsibilities as Unarmed Security Agents while working assignments where an authorized firearm is required. Armed Agents are held to an elevated standard of responsibility, judgment, maturity, firearm safety, and professionalism. Armed Security Agents must:Meet all applicable company and legal requirements for armed assignments.Maintain all licenses, permits, qualifications, certifications, and documentation required for their assignment.Successfully complete company firearm documentation and verification requirements.Carry only firearms and equipment authorized for the specific assignment.Maintain safe firearm handling practices at all times.Follow all company firearm and use-of-force policies.Never unnecessarily display, handle, remove, or discharge a firearm.Immediately report any firearm-related incident or use-of-force incident.Understand that possession of a firearm does not expand an Agent’s legal authority.Demonstrate excellent judgment, emotional control, de-escalation skills, and situational awareness. Additional screening, documentation, training, qualification, and approval may be required before an Agent is assigned to an armed post. Minimum Qualifications Applicants must:Be at least 18 years of age for positions where permitted by applicable law and assignment requirements.Be legally authorized to work in the United States.Possess a valid government-issued photo identification.Have reliable transportation to and from assigned work locations.Have reliable communication and maintain a working telephone.Be capable of communicating clearly and professionally in English.Be able to read, understand, and follow written post orders and company policies.Be capable of writing clear and accurate reports.Demonstrate professional judgment and decision-making.Maintain a professional appearance.Demonstrate honesty, integrity, dependability, and accountability.Be able to work independently with limited direct supervision.Be able to remain alert for extended periods.Be willing to work various assignments based on operational needs.Successfully complete Top Shelf Security Services Inc. onboarding and required training.Successfully complete all legally permitted pre-employment screening requirements applicable to the position. Armed Agent Additional Qualifications Applicants seeking armed assignments must also satisfy all applicable legal and company requirements for carrying a firearm while working an armed security assignment. Candidates must be prepared to provide applicable documentation requested by Top Shelf Security Services Inc. before being approved for an armed assignment. Employment with Top Shelf Security Services Inc. does not automatically authorize an employee to work an armed assignment. Armed assignments require separate approval. Preferred Qualifications Preferred applicants may have:Previous security experience.Military experience.Law enforcement or corrections experience.Security, public safety, loss prevention, or emergency-response experience.CPR/AED/First Aid certification.De-escalation or conflict-resolution training.Experience writing incident reports.Experience working access-control posts.Experience working construction, commercial, residential, retail, event, or corporate security.A valid driver’s license and clean driving history for positions requiring operation of company vehicles. Previous security experience is preferred for certain assignments but may not be required for every position. Customer ServiceAbility to assist clients, visitors, residents, customers, and members of the public while maintaining security responsibilities. ReliabilitySecurity Agents must understand that arriving late or failing to report for duty may leave a client location without proper security coverage. IntegrityAgents are entrusted with client property, confidential information, equipment, access credentials, and significant responsibilities. Attendance & Dependability Security operations depend heavily on proper staffing. Employees are expected to report to all scheduled assignments on time and prepared to work. Repeated tardiness, excessive absenteeism, failure to properly notify management of an absence, or failure to report for an assigned shift may result in corrective action in accordance with company policy. Uniform & Grooming Standards Security Agents must maintain a clean, professional, and properly groomed appearance. Employees must:Wear the complete assigned uniform.Maintain uniforms in clean and presentable condition.Properly display required company identification.Maintain appropriate personal grooming.Use only company-approved uniform items and equipment while on assignment. Agents are representatives of Top Shelf Security Services Inc. whenever they are in uniform. Physical Requirements Depending on the assignment, Security Agents may be required to:Stand or walk for extended periods.Conduct repeated foot patrols.Climb stairs.Work indoors or outdoors.Work in varying weather conditions.Sit or monitor an assigned area for extended periods.Bend, reach, or perform other routine physical movements associated with security duties.Respond promptly to incidents occurring throughout an assigned property. Scheduling & Availability Top Shelf Security Services Inc. may provide security services during days, nights, weekends, holidays, and overnight hours. Schedules are based on client contracts and operational needs. Training & Onboarding Selected candidates may be required to complete Top Shelf Security Services Inc.’s onboarding and Security Agent training process before receiving an assignment. Background & Employment Screening Employment may be contingent upon successfully completing legally permitted screening applicable to the position and client assignment.
