Starting Wage: $20.00 per hour
90-Day Performance Review: Employees may be considered for a wage increase after successfully completing their first 90 days of employment. Any increase will be based on overall job performance, attendance, punctuality, dependability, completion of assigned responsibilities, and adherence to company expectations. A wage increase after 90 days is not guaranteed.
Position Summary
Tru by Hilton West Bristol is seeking an experienced, dependable, and hands-on Chief Engineer / Maintenance Engineer to oversee the maintenance and overall physical condition of the hotel.
This position is responsible for ensuring the property remains safe, clean, functional, and well maintained for our guests and team members. The ideal candidate will be proactive, organized, dependable, and capable of identifying and correcting maintenance concerns before they become larger issues.
This is a hands-on working maintenance position. The Chief Engineer / Maintenance Engineer is expected to actively perform repairs, complete preventive maintenance, respond to guest concerns, maintain hotel equipment and building systems, and coordinate with outside vendors when specialized services are necessary.
This position requires someone who can prioritize maintenance needs, work independently, communicate effectively with management, follow through on assigned responsibilities, and respond appropriately to emergency situations.
Essential Responsibilities
- Oversee and perform the day-to-day maintenance needs of the hotel.
- Complete preventive maintenance on guest rooms, public areas, equipment, and building systems.
- Maintain and troubleshoot HVAC systems, PTAC units, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and general building systems.
- Respond promptly and professionally to guest maintenance requests and operational emergencies.
- Conduct routine property inspections and proactively identify maintenance concerns requiring corrective action.
- Monitor and maintain fire alarm, life-safety, emergency lighting, and security-related systems.
- Ensure compliance with Hilton brand standards, company policies, OSHA requirements, health and safety regulations, and applicable fire and life-safety requirements.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, work orders, inspection records, and preventive maintenance documentation.
- Coordinate and oversee outside vendors, contractors, and service providers when specialized repairs are required.
- Follow up on vendor and contractor work to ensure repairs are completed properly and in a timely manner.
- Maintain an organized inventory of maintenance supplies, replacement parts, tools, and equipment.
- Assist with controlling departmental expenses and identifying cost-effective repair solutions.
- Assist with hotel improvement projects, renovations, and capital improvement projects as assigned.
- Maintain maintenance areas, mechanical rooms, storage areas, and workspaces in a clean and organized condition.
- Prioritize and promptly address maintenance concerns that may impact guest safety, cleanliness, comfort, or hotel operations.
- Communicate completed work, outstanding repairs, property concerns, and vendor needs to hotel management.
- Participate in on-call coverage and respond to after-hours emergencies when necessary.
- Perform additional maintenance-related duties and projects as assigned by the General Manager.
Qualifications
- Previous hotel, commercial building, apartment, facilities, or similar maintenance experience preferred.
- Previous supervisory or maintenance leadership experience preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of HVAC, PTAC units, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and general building repairs.
- Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve maintenance issues efficiently.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs and life-safety systems.
- Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and complete assigned responsibilities with minimal supervision.
- Strong organizational, communication, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
- Must demonstrate dependability, consistent attendance, punctuality, accountability, and follow-through.
- Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical duties including bending, climbing, reaching, kneeling, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Must be available for after-hours emergency calls when required.
- Ability to work weekends and holidays when necessary based on hotel operations or emergency maintenance needs.
Preferred Experience
- Hotel maintenance or engineering experience.
- Experience maintaining PTAC/HVAC equipment and hotel plumbing systems.
- Experience with fire alarm, emergency, and life-safety systems.
- Experience coordinating with outside contractors and service vendors.
- Previous maintenance leadership experience.
- Hilton brand experience is preferred but not required.
